Location: Brookfield, WI | Looks like I'm the guy that gets to start this thread. I hope everybody takes the time to enjoy their family at least a little bit on this day. I know the time for fishing muskies, at least here in the north, is drawing to a close, and some of you are trying to get in some last time on the water. Many may be spending time in a deer stand.
Though I wasn't much of a musky man this year, I'm thankful for those that took or offered to take me fishing. I'm thankful for my wonderful wife, and wonderful daughter. I'm thankful that my daughter this year took a huge interest in playing golf with her fat old daddy. It was the best summer and fall of my life as a family man. I'm thankful my mother's health still gives her some quality of life. I'm thankful for my sisters and their terrific families. I'm thankful, that even though I didn't really fish this season, that Slamr, Lambeau, and Steve still allow to post my inane ramblings on this site. I'm thankful there is still enough enough work for me to pay my bills in this terrible economic and real estate climate. I'm thankful Mr. Booze has become a much less frequent visitor to my life.
I'm thankful for the men and women that serve our country. I'm thankful for The Simpsons, Chuck, The Golf Channel, Top Chef, and The Green Bay Packers, even without Brett Favre. I'm thankful that I can still pick up a book for an hour or two every day to learn something or lose myself in the imaginations of those more talented than I.
Last Thanksgiving, I found that a 26.5 pound turkey was out of my weight class, much like the giant fish I hooked and lost a couple years ago on Eagle. It just wouldn't cook through and I lost it at oven side. Today I am cooking two 13 pound birds. They should be easier to get to the table; moist on the inside, yet brown and crispy on the outside. A close friend from CA and his family will be here to share our meal, which should make the day even better.
Happy Thanksgiving, M1st.
Kevin
Thank you one and all. |

Location: Ogden, Ut | Thanks for starting the thread Kevin. I echo many of his sentiments even though it will come off much more rough around the edges. My family is happy and healthy despite a scare this summer when my Dad suffered a life-threatening stroke. He is now nearly fully recovered (about 99.99%; pretty good considering many family members figured he started out at about 97% ).
I dwell a lot on the friends and acquaintances I have encountered on this site and marvel at my good fortune. I also feel a huge debt to our Armed Forces personnel (yes, even the Coasties!) fighting for our freedoms home and abroad, it's difficult to fully enjoy the freedoms we experience daily without a twinge of guilt sometimes. May their families be comforted somewhat during this holiday season. Through their efforts we are able to be thankful for the profound (Family, Freedom, Friends, Good fortune) as well as the trivial (Beav's Basement Baits, Spotted Cows, Fake Spotted Cows, a good cup of coffee, dial-up internet connections).
Thanks also for Kevin's inane contributions to this site; laughter is very therapeutic.
I get to take my family fishing this morning before we go to a friend's place for the festivities; how great is that? May your day be as good as mine is shaping up to be!

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Happy Thanksgiving to all! We are back from a 5 day hunt in the WI National Forest, ready to finish my vacation hunting locally with Sue when she isn't working. Keith bagged a nice 6 and a huge doe, I passed a few does waiting for the big boy; he never stepped out where I could get a shot. We had a great hunt up there, camping for the entire time.
Happy Turkey DAY! |
