I back mine with some mono and depending on the reel and line dia. this will determine how much line you put on. I usually put a little more on than needed then go outside and tie it to my bumper and walk out until all of the line is out. Then I reel in while keeping tension on the line and when I get all of the line on the reel it is usually perfect with a nice tight core of line on the reel. I think with my 100PowerPro I used a little more than 100yds. I also have Cortland but have not put it on a reel yet. Waiting to get a Red Isis to try out that line. I think I have a 150yrd spool of that line?

I put about 100 yards as well. A small suggestion is to not use heavy mono for the backing. Its tough to tie the lines together. Use 12-20lbs mono instead of the 60lbs insanely thick line i used last year. It acts like a spring when it gets that thick. I had to strecth it like crazy to keep it from twisting into random tangles.
