I know some lake are starting to get some skim ice, I was wondering if we could keep a update here on which lakes are still accessible to fish especially the Madison chain and Twin valley. Any info would be greatly appreciated, I know some of the lakes had skim ice on them monday, they also pulled the pier out at Wingra. Well lets get some updates here folks.

I was out 2 nights ago and i plan on going out again tonight which sounds crazy as its supposed to be 12 degrees tonight but all lakes in the madison chain are still fishable at this time. Some lakes may have ice around the edges like you mentioned but still all are fishable to some extent.

I called Dorns and they said the lakes on the chain are still open as of 3pm today, people are still getting out, they also said that Twin Valley was locked up this morning, but I called the DNR over at Twin and they said the lake was open this afternoon and that people were launching boats still? I would assume that someone must have broke up a path at Twin to get out

Monona had ice out 10 yards at the Olin launch this morning but it was easy to break through. It wasn't easy to break through the 30.60 barometer though. Nothing caught/nothing seen. Water temp was around 40 and they still had one pier in too. Monona should be fishable until close.

Twin was frozen this morning, but lardonastick busted his way out. he was rewarded with a 40"er.

Wingra had a bit of skim ice along shore at the launch that was busted open before i got there. it was making ice along shore all afternoon and the wind was blowing it to the far end. should be fine all weekend in spite of the cold nights.

i watched Lee Bartolini catch a 38", and about 10 minutes after taking some pictures for him, he returned the favor on the 38.5" that i got, both on suckers around 1pm.

Just got back from Mendota, boy is it cold out, but anyways there wasn't any ice on shore at all, the shoreline itself was covered in ice but not the lake.

Went to the wingra launch this morning 8:00 am....she's locked up no open water anywhere, went over to fish monona, had ice at the launch for about 50 feet in the am, otherwise pretty much open. Tonight at the launch I spoke with a gentleman that tried to break ice for 1hour 45min on twin valley, he finally gave up after about 75 feet he said. So TV is locked also.

fished my local pond today, missed one on a sucker early, got a 40" right before calling it a day. water temps at 36, so hopefully it'll stay open through next weekend too. i always try to fish somewhere on closing day.

some of the castaways from Wingra (Bigman and reelwise) came up my way in a desperate search for open water...reelwise's partner scored a 37" on a bulldawg. it felt downright crowded out there with 3 boats, lol...

Pewaukee is in good shape.

Had one pick up & never got hooks into it. Chomp marks were on the tail of the sucker.

Others faired better yesterday with fish moving on Jakes & Bulldawgs & hitting the suckers on the fig8.

Depending on the weather, that may have been it for me this year? Saturday is a possiblilty...

Easy launch & no ice to fight.

Silver is half ice, half open water. The launch has been frozen but we've opened it up (as well as some duck hunters) each morning. The fish are going as well, with pounders and suckers still working, as well as grannies. Not sure if she'll be open by the end of the week yet. We'll see.

lund1675-
Is all of Twin Valley open or did you just break a path from the launch? Is there much open water?

Thanks!

Oconomowoc is wide open. Actually saw more Big Smallies/Walleyes then Skies.
Frozen launch makes it very dicey to get out.

I was wrong about the couple of warm days opening Twin valley. Tried to get out there today around noon the ice about 100 feet from the landing was thick enough I couldn't get thru it. Very little fishable water so I'd say Twin Valley is all locked up for this season.

Yellowstone is also locked up till next season.
