What's up with the "lake X" crap on the fish reports?

Easy Bill...my guess would be to drive peeps nuts trying to figure out what you just asked...apparently any letter of the phonetic alphabet can be used to make one ponder, fret over or become frustrated by following the word "lake"...respond by singing Jimmy Crack Corn + the mental hindrance will melt away....[:sun:]

We are all on this board to learn and help each other, I agree, whats up with lake X it only pisses people off. A little help here and there can't make that much of a difference on the lake that is reported or posted on,or can it? I have posted on Pewaukee Lake a few times and don't think it makes it more or less crowded. Lets keep the fishing reports just that "reports".

Last year I put alot of lakes up there and had no response. Then I started a "LAKE X" report and we had tons of reponses of reports and helpful hints.

Good or bad,, folks dont always like to give the lake name up, but they are happy to tell us that "yellow suicks", "firetiger Slammers" and purple bucktails are working in 10ft ect on Lake X.

This year, I thought I would break that down to the state at least.

Any info..is better then NO info for us to learn from.

The best reports are still ...the lake reports. I wish more folks would share and learn from each other. Remembering that we all release the fish anyways.[;)]

I agree, the reports section is to share info.

Not, I caught a musky from lake X, on lure X and on spot X.

These musky boards are to be fun AND informative. People need to learn. That is why most visit this (and other) musky boards, is to learn more about MUSKIES!

I see your logic now Jason. Thank you.

Bill...share the secret of the Red Dragon only w/ those that divulge the lake name, bait, etc...or design a new bait using a letter from the alphabet....[] [:sun:]

I guess "half learning" is better than no learning at all...worked for me to a degree.....

Bill how about: the DB GS on lake P. Is that the kind of info we need on this board. Or maybe check out bills web site for more info. I will post more detailed reports on my web site "fishing reports".

The Lake X "crap" attitude you see on these boards I think comes not ONLY from guys trying to protect "their" lakes, but also not wanting to divulge their "secrets". If I spent 200 hours figuring out good spots and patters....I don't feel obligated to give them to everyone....

Im with you on that Slamr, don't think the reports have to go that deep. Just if the lake is hot or maybe topwater is working. Nothing is free in this world but there is some give and take. Time to hit the water!!!

Slamr,
I did'nt know it was "YOUR" lake. My point is, if you want to give out info, than do it. If you want to keep "YOUR" lake a "SECRET" than keep you mouth shut!

I am personally DON'T tell the rambling herd what is going on on the lakes I fish the most....but, if someone approaches me singly, I am MORE than happy to divulge info. Something about giving up the fruits of my labors to everyone just doesnt sit well with me. But, ask anyone, you ask me individually what I've been doing well on, I never say no....can't explain the difference.
And YES, in most cases I just keep my big yap shut when it is thrown out to the internet world.

IMHO.

Lake X should be reserved for personal conversations or general references...

Why give a report on Lake X?

See you I'm fishing on Lake M this weekend with Greg M and 150 other teams........

I just put a post on the trips report board, just before I read this thread. In the report I didn't list the lake name. But the description that I gave of the lake was such that any of the locals or people who know me would very easily figure out the name of the lake.

I used to post the lake name, but I have learned that even on the highly pressured waters of a major metro area when one opens ones' mouth and gives lake names the already high pressure goes up even farther. How long can a fishery withstand the pressue and still be a good fishery? So I will continue to post info and ask for info, but will withhold the lake name. Those that know me will know what lake is being mentioned, for the other locals they will probadly figure it out, but it should help in keeping some of the pressue down from those who might not fish the lake otherwise.

Last year when this board started and many of us moved our attention from Muskie Central, I remarked, somewhat sarcastically, that no one was responding to fishing reports and requests. Jason agreed that very little information was coming from the team. Now I live in Ames Iowa, and am not about to drive up to Bone Lake, Chippewa, Mille Lac, etc. just because the muskies are hitting in 8-10 feet of water on trolled spinnerbaits. What I'm getting at is that I don't see anything so wrong with sharing general information such as the previous example. There's a lot of 8-10 foot water on every lake. No one expects any of you to give specific spots with specific bait and presentation, but what's wrong with naming the lake, if its not a small lake?
Just my 2 cents.
All the best,
Don
