How many inches is a 90 hp motor in the down position. I have a buddy trying to fit a boat into his garage.

Your question doesn't really make sense to me. Trimmed all the way down the motor will still stick out a minimum of 12" if that's what ur asking. I have a 90hp merc with a 17' BassNSki boat, sitting on the trailer it measures 23' from tongue to prop. Which is 2" too big for my garage and I had to rent a storage unit.

This may sound ridiculous, but if you have your garage sheet rocked, you can cut out a small rectangle in between two studs, pull the insulation out,and take some thin paneling and finish the little cubby hole and paint it match the color of your walls. That will give you about 3-4 inches to maybe stick the prop/cavity plate back far enough to get you into the garage. How do I know?,I did it myself to get a boat into a garage to keep it out of the weather or wasting money on storage. And it's easy to fix if your selling the house like i did.

Sorry for the confusion. I am just trying to figure out with a 17ft boat with the engine trimmed down will it fit in my buddies garage. The cover is usually the widest part. I was guessing about + 2ft or so.

I have a 17' 2" Crestliner wiht a 90HP Suzuki and my garage is 20' deep. I have a swing tongue on my trailer and have about 2" to spare with the tongue stowed. The swing portion of the tongue is 18" long so you need a minimum garage depth of 21.5' assuming you do not have extra length on the toungue of your trailer. 22' is probably a non issue with almost any trailer style.
