| Main question... what lines are best for fishing cold weather to avoid ice on the lines? I heard spirewire ultracast was a good one.
Also anybody have a good suggestions for gloves. I used sealskinz last year and they were ok. They do keep your hands dry but the water sits on the outer layer which can cause cold hands. Using a larger pair overtop of the forst pair will keep the hands warmer but you lose mobility.

| I just bought a spool of ultracast invisi-braid and really like it for picking up less water. I've always used tuff line and never had any complaints other than the water pick-up. I just assumed that was the way it had to be with braids, but heard reports from this site that not all braids are equal in this department. So I went out and picked up a spool, and I can tell you there is a noticable difference in water absorption. The line definitely has a more nylon/synthetic feel to it compared to the cloth like nature of the tuff line. Have I made a switch for good? Not yet, the jury is still out on a couple factors. The biggest is that so far on trying to pull a few snags, I've noticed that the line seems to dig into the spool a little easier than the tuff. It hasn't been a factor on catching a fish yet, but I haven't put it to the test with anything of significant size. The other is how the line will wear with time, which tuff seems to excel at. That's about all I can offer, so I'd suggest picking up a spool and giving it a go. If you don't like it you can always switch back, but if you don't try it yourself you'll continue to wonder. Good luck and I hope you find something you like.
And just so you know both the line and especially the gloves have been covered in serious detail about a month ago, as well as several times in the past, so check the post history. I'm sure you will find some comments that will help you.

| Thanks... I searched and found some info on the gloves but not much concerning line and water absorption. I'll give the spiderwire a try. Thanks again | |
