| With the economy like it is. How good of a deal can you get on a boat? It seems like the manufacturers are really struggling like the cars companies are. How much do you offer on a boat that is usually $20K |

Location: Chaska MN. | Well its the end of the season and I know that you can get a good deal on a 2008 don't think you can deal as well on a 2009, on a 2008 you may be able to get 3-4 k off the spring price. I bought mine in 2001 a week after 9/11 and got a great deal on a 2001 model. my advice is to wheel and deal with the add on things such as the electronics, trolling motor etc. and look to upgrade any thing you need and they will probably be willing to deal there. Just keep in mind that over the last 3-4 years the prices of boats and motors have taken a huge jump and even with the end of the season you may still be in for sticker shock so good luck and do your homework. |

| My buddy works for a boat dealer and we were just talking about this the other day. He said if you want a new boat, especially a floor model, now is the time. He told me spring is the best time to get a deal on a used boat. Since I will be looking at a used boat, I'm going to wait. |

Location: Twin Cities | Last year (aug) I got a new 2007 fully rigged Ranger 188 for under 24K and the same boat is still found at dealer floors today for over 30K, I just laugh when I see those prices on over year old boats. Look hard and tell dealers they are not in the drivers seat bc you are.

The reason the deals are good this time of year is the floor plan interest on most boats still on the lot from 2008. Every month that rig sits, the dealer pays out a few hundred at the least; it doesn't take long where the rig has cost them more than it traditionally sells for. Also, to put in the 2009 models, the dealers need to free up floor plan credit to pay for them. |

| Mine will be for sale very soon for the very reasons that Sworrall just talked about. I'll be driving a new '08 and will be looking to sell my Ranger Cherokee. Trickle-down economics? |

Location: Lebanon,Mo | Anything I have is for sale anytime. But I think finding a good deal on used boat in the spring would not be the case.I think fall is by far better.Less people looking to buy now and more looking at spring time to sell used and dealers wont budge when they have more customers that come around spring time.

| Dealers get most of their trade-ins in the spring, and so they want them out as fast as possible probably to save room. So, I respectfully disagree. |

| I guess it depends some on where you want to purchase -- I've found MUCH better deals from individuals selling their boats in Fall and desparate to do so in order to avoid having to store them over the Winter -- got mine that way for a steal and it's serve me perfectly for 2 years now. Boat dealers seem to sell used boats cheaper in Spring for the reasons described above. |

Location: Lebanon,Mo | I just always see Dealers trying to move the boats in the Fall because the next year models are on the way or already on the floor.Bass Pro headquarters here in Missouri will always slash used boat prices here during the fall as they put the new ones on display.Same as some other boat dealers.Guess it doesnt matter. In fact if i was to buy a used boat,im going to cut the middle man out and go straight to a private party anyway. That will save you some $$

Location: Roch NY | whether dealers wheel and deal in the spring or fall depends on what lattitude you live in. Our local PBS said they are not even getting in the 2009s till spring. no one is going to buy up here now and just sit on it over the winter. the new ones are now going to southern dealers. so from a DEALER, spring will be the time, at least for us in the north.
However, I agree with an earlier comment that for PRIVATE sales, fall is the best time. Its like buying a house. everyone puts its on the market in the spring if they aren't in a big hurry. Why? because thats when the buyers are out looking, meaning less of a buyers market and higher prices (but these days its always a buyers market to some degree). The ones who are selling now are doing so because they need the $$.
Becasue depreciation is high right now on used, and dealers can only cut so much on new, I say buy one thats a year or two old on a private sale and offer a bargain basement price. thats your best value these days.

| I think The fall is the best time to purchase any boat, New or used they would prefer to sell at a loss or very small profit rather than have to Winterize and put in storage, or leave outside and hope critters and falling branches don't damage the Boat... I have just purchased one myself last week a 1650 Fishhawk with two motors and a trailer $4300. looks like new. I'm sure in spring this boat would be twice that price.... |
