I am looking at a boat with a Mariner outboard, does anyone have any experience with these? It's a 9.9 long shaft.
Thanks for any help

Mariner and mercury are the same. Don't know why they have the two brand names, but they are the same engine from the same company, just in different clothes.

Early Mariners were, I believe, made by Yamaha. Sometime in the late '80's, they became Mercs w/different paint & decals.

The Mariner 9.9 model will be a Mercury.

Thanks for everyone's help. I thought they were made by Mercury, but wasn't sure. So water pumps, impellors, etc. are interchangable between Mariner and Mercury?

I got a 1967 Mercury 9.9 (kiekhaefer) that I use, starts on one pull and runs without problems. Lots of available parts (with a little searching) and a lot of them are interchangeable. Great motor IMO. Dave

Thanks for the replys.
Dave, thanks that's good to know.
On a side note... I bought the boat!
It's a nice 97' 14' Starcraft.
