Chip Report

Fished 3 days of Memorial Day weekend. Weeds were nil on the East side and only getting started on the West side. West side temps were 56, East 54. Had only one fish flash from a distance on a 6" Crane. Walleyes were good in 20ft of water near current. Jig/minnow with the fish hooked in the back were the ticket. Hooked in the mouth resulted in a minnow with a tailed chomped off. Crappies were spawing and very catchable in 3-9ft of water where weeds were present. Crappie minnows under a float were the ticket.

I caught a nice 35”er on opening day near eagles nest on a 5” perch slammer. We raised 6 muskies over the whole weekend and saw a couple very nice fish. Best weeds I could find where around 12” tall and sparse. Caught about a half dozen pike and limited out on crappies Monday up in Crane. The lake seemed pretty sterile and the locals say she’s about 10 days behind a normal spring.

Our friends caught 2 on Saturday while fishing for walleyes. One was a baby. The other was about 38" to 40". Both were caught on small jigs casted away from the boat toward structure in about 4 feet of water. The water is pretty clear right now. Friend said nothing was caught using a vertical presentation...

I will be up on the Chip all day Saturday (6/8) for a work-related musky outing. Apparently, we will be fishing with a guide that is being provided for us free of charge. I haven't been up there since last July. Anyone having any action on the chip in the last week or so? Any help would be appreciated. I will also be up the following Sat. (6/15) for a similar work-related trip with another guide provided as well if I want.

Thanks,

Mike
