i know this has been beat to death but i need some ideas.
have a st.croix premier 8ft heavy and also a 7-2 premier, was thinking of getting a 6-9 avid at closeout price but was wanting a rod to throw big plastics as well as deadheads and t-bones-stuff like that.
would the premier 8-6 xtra heavy be strong enough? or should i get the 7-9 xxxh? thanks again..karol

I have the 8'6" XH in the legend tournament...it is great for 11" suzy suckers, mag dawgs, and can even throw pounders. If you wanted to throw the "2 lbers" you would want the XXXH. The XXXH feels awkward in my hands...like it should be 9' long instead of 7'9".

I've been using my 8'6" premier for rubber since they came out a few months ago. I now have 2 of them I liked the first 1 soo much. I got it cause I was missing fish with wimpier rods.

Highly recomended.
A friend has both the legend and the premier in the 8'6s and is more than satisfied with the both.

Good luck

Jason, or anybody else with the new 8'6" Premier. Have you used it for BIG rubber, like Pounders or the 11 inch Curly Sues and 13" Suzy Suckers? How does it handle them?

Could you describe the rod a little? Powerful backbone with a tip that will give a little, or is it pretty stiff all the way through? How is the physical weight of this rod?

This sounds like an interesting rod I would like to hear a little more about.

I have the 8' 6" premier XH. I use it mainly for double 10s. Ive never tried throwing a pounder on it, but I question whether it would work good for that.

Not stiff all the way through. Has quite a bit of give in my opinion. The weight is not bad at all, I don't even notice or think about it so it can't be that bad.

I have no doubt it will throw pounders just fine. Haven't tried it myself, but watched a friend throw 1 up north with it late this summer. I'd say its stiffer than the super mag dawg rod but not near as stiff as the 7'9xxxh croix
