Location: nappanee IN | are the mini vans with front wheel drive any good for towing? thought i saw where the center of gravity changes when your pulling a load and you don't get the grip with rear wheel drive. have an astro with 268,345 miles on it and looking to trade.
need something to haul 5 other people to work-amish- they pay my way and then some. $30.00 each a week. need some ideas for a good trade..karol |

Location: Davenport, IA | A lot of people do it. I would be worried on a rough launch though...especially if its icy. All the weight is on the back but the power is up front. I have no experience with this, so maybe someone can tell me I'm wrong. |

| For the best results in a mini van consider an AWD. Front wheel drive is significantly less effective than either RWD or AWD for towing anything heavier than a small boat. |

| The power being applied up front is just one of the issues. Few if any front wheel drive vehicles are beefed up enough to handle towing anything significant: tranny, axles, diffs, brakes, auxillary tranny and engine cooling. I see that as being a bigger issue than the fact that the power goes to the front wheels, which to me is just a secondary problem. |

Location: Lebanon,Mo | Stay away from '97-'01 Ford Windstars if your going to pull something.Alot of trannys(overdrive) going out of them at just over 100,000 miles without pulling anything.Had to wait my turn in line to get it fixed among other Windstars.Wife has a new car now. |

| I have towed a 17 foot fiberglass bass boat with my 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan with no problems at all. My neighbor pulls his 17 foot Crestliner to Ontario every year with his Chevy Uplander, also with no problems. I would perfer a van with a tow package which would beef up the suspension and provide a transmission cooler. Good Luck! |
