I lifted up a lid to my dry storage this morning and noticed an ant crawling around the edge. Grabbed it...yep carpenter ant. I found a couple others when I got home from work this evening. I just spent the last 5 hours cleaning everything out of the boat and spraying everything down with ant killer. I also set Terro Liquid Ant Baits in the rod storage, dry storage, and under the console. Then I went through the entire boat poking around with a screw driver and I can't find any soft spots so I am hoping I only had a couple hitch hikers from somewhere.

I fished a couple days in the rain last weekend and haven't been home much to pull the boat out of the garage so the carpet and around the lids are still moist. Hopefully they were just attracted to that as I have never seen them before.

Any other suggestions on what I should do to check for damage? I remember a post on here last year where the guy had to completely redo his boat. Trying to avoid that. Also, any other suggestions on what to do to shake these ants? Thanks!

while in storage keep a couple dixie cups half filled with moth balls in the boat. keeps all bugs and furry friends out.

I'm the guy that had to redo his boat.

First off, I hope the ants were just hitch hikers. Second off, the ant killer will get rid of all of the ants. I did one quick spray, and they all died. It doesn't take much when they are trapped on your boat.

I would check all of the screws to make sure they are tight. If you find some loose ones, put some silicone in the hole and retighten them. If you can't get the screw tight, go up to the next biggest size screw. If that still doesn't work, you may have some floor rot.

Poking around with a screw driver won't tell you that much. Most of the rot will start underneath things that are screwed down. Plus, the top of the floor will be pretty firm because you still have the fiberglass layer that won't rot.
