Location: Medford, WI | Peter, we had great luck on suckers iup there last October (beginning to end). Definitely give it a try...and don't be afraid to keep the suckers up high inthe water column either. Make sure you're using a good quickstrike rig and set the hooks right away. I'll be up in Rhinelander this weekend and probably up in Vilas one or 2x before October so I'll let you know how it's going before you head up there.

Live bait works during the entire open water season, yet is especially effective in the fall, starting in September, the later in the fall the better.
I know that in late fall (before freeze-up) many use the biggest suckers they can find. Problem is, quickset rigs don't work well on big bait resulting in poor hook-ups. Many now are switching to slow rolling big cranks and Pounders, or rowtrolling these same lures for the increased hooking. I don't fish in the fall so this is second-hand but reliable.

| I know a guy that had 7 hits and boated 4 near Hayward Labor day weekend...it's never too early ..if you can keep them lively fish eat em |

| I haven't had much luck keeping them alive in water temps above about 60. I'm pretty sure muskies eat suckers all year long, so if you could just keep them alive they'd probably work any time.
As far as keeping them lively and swimming around, low 60's and below seems to be where they thrive best.
