Does anyone know if there is still a 50 dollar rebate offer on the 300 dsv.

Not sure, but I can tell you that you will be hard pressed to find cheaper prices on Ebay. I bought one for $178 last month, NIB.

I think the rebate ended at the end of May. I was a few days ahead of the deadline myself. If you search the net pretty good there are a couple of places that are selling well below retail, if I can find the places again I will list them.

Not sure why they are on close out, are they being changed for 2009?

Shimano is coming out with the "E" version for '09.

it does mean that there are good deals to be found on the old "D" version, i picked one up at Cabela's for $169 a couple weeks ago.

Thanks for the help. You would think that with all the Cabelas there are in the world that they would have one left wouldnt you!!!! But they are all out! I did find one at Gander though but for 200

Gander Moutain in Baraboo has 5 of the 300s and 1 of the 301s left for $199.

Thanks Mike! They are gonna get me one at The Sportsman in Appleton for $200. Cabelas still has some of the 301s for 170 for all the lefties out there.

What pound like are you guys running on yours. I am thinking of running 80 pound but dont know if I will get enough line on the reel.

I run 65, tried 80, but it seemed like too much, started to affect casting distance. With 65 I can bomb baits farther than necessary quite easily. Really a nice reel.

FYI, I was talking with our Shimano rep today. The significant changes are on the smaller Curado models. With the 300 series (which is what most musky guys like) the ONLY change is the body color. I've had a number of guys saying that they're holding off on buying a Curado until the "improved" model comes out. That won't be until somewhere around the first of the year for the 300's. If you like the new green color better than the grey that's about the only difference you will find in the 300's. Now I will tell you that if any of you guys are looking for new spinning reels for walleye, bass, etc, the new "propulsion system" that is coming out on the Shimano spinners is freaking awesome. I got to throw several of the reels today and it looks like I'll be laying out some cash to get the new goodies for my walleye and smallie fishing next year. The cool part is that they are incorporating this new system throughout most of the spinning product line so you don't necessarily have to lay out $600 for the high end stuff in order to get the new technology. I usually don't get all geeked up about this kind of stuff but I'm thoroughly impressed with the performance of these new reels.
