| Despite my good sportsmanship, the musky gods didn't see it fit to reward me for doing a good deed. I was avoiding the heat wave this past weekend by doing a little night fishing. Went to my favorite breakline at moonrise and found no baitfish activity. Moved off into the main basin and found the cisco I was looking for and proceeded to pioneer some open-water suspended fish NIGHT fishing patterns. As I fished, I noticed a boat slowly cruising the breakline without running lights. When the full moon rose over the treetops, I could see they were blatantly motor trolling (Trolling is illegal on this lake).
On their third pass, I warned them that trolling was illegal and they had better stop or I'd call the Warden. Completely ignored me. On their 4th pass, I motored over and confronted them. I complimented them on how quiet their new Yamaha 4-stroke was... but that it wasn't quiet enough for them to troll all night without someone noticing. Got called a bunch of profanities and questioned on "just who the hell am I". Enough was enough so I looked for thier boat registration numbers.... and found none. Told them how convenient it was for them to NOT have registration numbers while they VIOLATED and informed them that was illegal too. They just didn't seem to appreciate my assistance to help them abide by the law. In the end, they agreed to quit and docked their boat at THEIR cabin. You can bet that I'll be watching for them in the future!!!!
The musky gods didn't reward me with a fish for my fine sportmanship. Do you think it was because I didn't turn them in.... despite knowing who they are (well, where they live anyway)? Anyone else having a hard time pleasing the Musky Gods this season???

| What the heck are you doing up at this hour? [:p] . My summer fishing has been nil so cant help ya on that one. I am too busy with the little musky hunter at home as well as working midnights. That combo makes it a bit of a pain to get out. Hopefully this fall, i can pray to the gods and they will bring unto me a bountifull plethora of fishies. [] | |

| As you should know by now, in muskie fishing there is no justice.
The next time out, you will probably get a warden that will stop you for going 1 mph over the night speed limit and having a fire extinguisher which hasn't been recharged!
You can only do what you can. Contact a warden and report
what you saw, it is likely that those guys will be back out
on the same lake doing the same thing. Some day they will get their day, or rather night, with the warden.

| The Musky Gods turned a blind eye on me not more than a few weeks ago. While up in Northern WI. I see a fellow struggling to keep his boat off the shore, he had run out of gas. So I offer to give him a tow. Of course he needs to be through a channel all the way across another lake. So I tow for about 35 minutes figuring, the Muskie Gods will look favorable on me. Boy, was I wrong. Three days of nothing. I am heading up again next week, I think I will sacrifice a goat to the gods this time and see if that works.

| Only once long ago while towing a boatload of drunk water skiers back to the landing, the muskie god did shine on me. I could only drag the group 4mph with my 40hp, so I decided to troll across the 40ft. depths of Pewaukee. The muskie god rewarded me with a 34" Hybrid while towing the boat behind me.
I have tried to duplacate that but without luck. I think if you do a good deed, you cant talk to the muskie god and beg him for a fish because of it.
You must be humble, or the muskie god will break your trolling motor or something.[]

| The Musky God giveth and the Musky God Taketh Away.
I had occasion to get to go to northern WI with kids this summer. Took out my 12 year old son for first time musky fishing, first opportunity actually, and fish cooperated pretty well, saw several and he got good looks at a couple nice ones and had one swim up to boat and eat his bait(lost it but saw it all). I caught a nice fat 19-21 lb. fish also and he was with me and netted it himself with very little input from me other than telling him when to put the net down(didn''t even mention the handle wasn''t locked in, didn''t want to give him too much to think about)netted it without a hitch.
then as I was unhooking had him take a couple of pictures, reminding him to frame them correctly, which he says he did, so thus far she giveth.........went to wal mart 1 hour photo eager to put suvenior in his hand to reinforce the experience, and wallah!!!!! a black roll of negatives claimed to be overexposed by the expert wal mart developer girl.....not a picture, not a shadow, not a happy face anywhere, so as she giveth thus shall she taketh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| Ohhh yeahh. The musky gods have been giving me a lot this season... but they have been taking away just a little too early!!!! I don't know about everyone else... but this is DEFINITELY the year of LOST fish! I can't hang onto a musky for nothing. The count of solid strikes with no hook-up this year is exceeding 30+ fish already.... and most of those were quality fish to boot. First night in Canada had three 40+ inch skis totally T-Boned my favorite crankbait at boatside... and nary a hook would hold. That is just one of dozens of similar encounters I experienced this season. In fact, last Sunday morning I lost a beauty that again T-Boned a big 10" crankbait that simply never got a hook despite almost ripping the rod from my hands! It amazes me a fish can grab three treble hooks and never get stuck.
Anyone else singin' the blues with me [:((] ?

| I just spent a week up in vilas county, granted I was moslty helping my kids fish, and managed one small follow on the dock with my son's spincast reel after i respooled it. My oldest had a twenty pounder up to the boat with the same pole and pops caught a 46" 27lber.[:)] | |

| Makes a muskie angler boil a bit, does it not?? I run into folks trolling sometimes on Pelican, and usually get abusive stuff when I take it upon myself to warn them they may be ticketed.[:blackeye:] | |
