Location: New London, Wisconsin | I've noticed on some videos and pictures here at M1st that many people have colored their bump boards. I like the idea for quick measurements but I'm wondering if there is a standard way or color scheme or are guys just setting it up how they like it? Sharpies, paint or what are you finding works best?

| many of the ones you see with color tabs are ones purchased through Paul Hartman's MMTT tournaments. the bump boards he uses are color-coded for easy measurement, especially in the pictures.
it appears to me that the colors are painted on, as they're quite durable - i've had mine for a couple years now and the colors are holding up well. i don't think Sharpie markers would last as long.
i also just ordered a new bump board from Reelwise, with custom color bars at the places where i want them to be. it should be arriving any day, i can't wait.
here's a good picture of a Dunwright board used in an MMTT tourney last year.

| with big numbers on the bump board, can somebody please explain to me why the avg. joe needs to put "colors" on it?
What's so hard about just reading the numbers? |

Guest...ave Joe does not "need" to color anything. Look a lambeau's picture, the colors are easy to see but the big numbers are tough to read, right? If getting a picture of the whole fish on a bumpboard the numbers will be very tough to see. |

| Guest, the colors are on the bumpboard because in Paul Hartman's Minnesota Muskie Trail your are required to take a digital photo of your musky on the bumpboard then release it. There's no transport, no waiting for a judgeboat for 1/2 hour. Once the photo is taken and the fish is released then a judgeboat is called to come over and verify your picture you just took. That is why the color codes are so important. They are way ahead of the WI Tournaments. And to answer any other questions pertaining to this, the color coded bumpboards AND digital cameras are provided at all of their tournment stops for you if you do not have your own.
