Just have to say that if anyone is considering a reel for the big double-bladed bucktails, the Penn 975 is an excellent choice. I fished today with it after considering a couple of different options and finally going with the Penn. Simply phenomenal. Not tiring at all to throw those big baits with the gear ratio of the Penn. What I also really like is that it is one of the few things nowadays that you can buy that is still made in the U.S.A.

I know eactly what you mean and agree 100%.
Also, being able to change from one length of handle to a longer one just by moving the reel handle is tremendous. It really reduces the amount of effort you have to use when pulling the big bladed baits.
The reels are tough as a tanks.
(I have no connection with Penn other than being a very satisfied customer)

I want to also give a warm shoutout to Penn! I had some technical difficulties with my 975, which bummed me, but after doing some at-home surgery and realizing I had no idea what to try next to get her cranking again, I sent it in under warranty. Included with the shipment was my paperwork, in which I attached a note to stress the urgency to get the reel back in a timely fashion with a tourney coming up this weekend and the rest of August. It took 7 days after they recieved the package to fix whatever was wrong with the reel, then tune it and had it back to my doorstep after an overnight (air) delivery last night! WOW!

Super impressive customer service - FAST & A JOB WELL DONE! They have my business from now on!
