| Hey Guys..
New to this site but I needed some opinions.
I have an 1994 Lund Explorer with a 30HP Oil Injected tiller motor. I want to upgrade and ran across a 2003 Lund Mr Pike with a 90HP 4 stroke. and a Heritage bunk trailer.
I could probably get the boat for around $9300. I looked at the boat and it has 5 yrs of wear, few scratces, nothing major. No cover, fish finder is very basic and so is the troller. The carpet is is in decent shape but dirty etc... I like the boat but am a little nervous from going to a tiller model to a console, do you guys think in a 16' the steering console takes up too much room? Good deal or not?
Thanks in advance guys!

Location: Kodiak, AK | My Dad has an older 16' Pike with a console and it's doable with two guys in there, but add a dog, or alot of gear, or even two guys flyfishing and moving around alot, and it gets crowded. He just bought a 16' Pro V tiller and it's night and day!
It all depends on how, and with whom you fish. |

| Remember-as an avid fisherman, you drive your boat 10 percent of the time and fish in it 90 percent of the time. Design your boat purchases around your priorities.
It ain't pretty trying to keep a muskie out from under the boat when trying to keep up with the fish as it is flying from front to back , and in the process having to sidestep a console. Consoles are nice--10 percent of the time. Tillers are NOT just for gardens!
Feel free to call anytime.

Consoles are nice--10 percent of the time.
That is until it's 30 degrees out, snowing, raining, etc. At that time the 10% is the only % that matters.

| Thx for the reply guys, I have a tiller now (Lund Explorer 16 ft) and was concerned with the console taking up room in the boat, but, I guess I'm ready for a change and an upgrade after 10 yrs. The console and all the "goodies" is tempting, and I can't afford a new one, this one came along but now maybe I should just consider holding out until I come across a good used 17" with a console what do u think?

Location: Minneapolis | I prefer a tiller for the added floor space and more precise trolling. In a 16' boat, I'll stick with a tiller.
If you really want a console, and have the space for it in your garage, I think you'll be happier with a 17'. You shouldn't have to spend much more (maybe less) than the Lund you're looking at. |

Location: NW WI | FWIW - you could likely get more boat for your $$ if you looked for other brands than a Lund. Lund no doubt makes a great boat with good resale, but IMO they, like Rangers are overpriced. |

| IMO, that boat would be under powered with the 90 on it. That boat is rated for 140 HP I believe. I had a 2002 1700 Angler which is the same hull. The Pike had the wide gunnels, and the side storage, but basically the same boat. Very nice boat for muskie fishing, and I never found the console to get in my way. And that was after being in tillers for the previous 15 years. As for the value? My old boat just sold again for $13,500, do I think your price is resonable. I can't imagine getting much moe boat for that price. Lunds overpriced? I tend to think the market is pretty good at determining what is good value or not. |

Location: Racine, Wi | If you're going to hold off and keep looking, you might want to consider looking for a Crestliner Fish Hawk 1750. You should be able to find a used one for a good price. The Cliners are much less than the lunds and fish great. I have a single counsil 1750 and there is a TON of room in the boat for the size. The front deck is easy to fish 2 off of, and plenty of room for 3 guys, a dog and all the junk we carry with us.

| Another 'thumbs up' for the Fish Hawk 1750. A great layout and the thinner gunnels are easier for figure 8s, too.

| A counsole may take up some space but what space? If you have two guys fishing one is in the front and one is in the back, there isn't anybody fishing in the middle is there? I would not go back to a tiller for any reason I don't think. I hear the "tiller is more accurate for trolling" thing a bit but for the life of me I don't understand it. How sharp do you need to turn to make a tiller more accurate? I can turn my counsole on a dime and even then I can turn it so sharp that the lines on the inside of the turn are laying dead in the water.
I realize that a lot of people like tillers and that's fine, they must be nice also because they still sell a ton of them but I think sometimes the "benefits" of a tiller are way over rated. |
