Went last night and raced to one of our favorite spots only to have someone already on it. So we moved down the shoreline about 300 yards on a different rock pile and first cast my son starts yelling Muskie Muskie!! I didn't even have a lure on yet! An awesome fight and we landed this fat 41 1/2" His new personal best.

Funny you can see the other boat in the background of the first picture right in front of the ski's mouth.

Nice fish. I haven't caught one on the first cast of the day, but earlier this year I caught one on my first cast after moving to a different spot. I don't think my brother even had the trolling motor in the water yet. I cast out a Crappie colored Shallow Invader and caught a 37.5 on the second twitch. Cool, but not as awesome as catching one on the first cast of the day though. Congrats.

I had a similar experience last week. I ran up the lake only to find that a boat was in my "A" spot. Thought about going into the "B" spot which was an island within view but didn't want to have them see me go in there so I went around the corner to fish a point that I had seen a ski on the day before.

I boated the 45 1/2" that was on the point and after that was all over we returned to the "A' spot where we had been seeing a good group of fish hangin out for the last while. First cast and we boated a 36". Had a 40+" hit on the figure eight (which I then pulled the hook out of his mouth) and then had a 50+" follow off of the same stretch of shore.

Also caught a fish boatside that evening that I have to share. Had it follow and torpedo under the boat. After the second figure eight it shot out from under the boat and grabbed my lure. Set the hook only to have it pull out of it's mouth as with the previous fish. As I had already missed one on the figure eight, out of frustration I spun the lure out of the water and smacked it on top of the fish (which was still boatside) as if I were smacking off some weeds or something. While, as I let my lure fall loosly in the water, she turned and ate. Boated a 41", my third ski of an after work fishin mission. What a night.

Last summer I caught one on one of my first 3 casts. All I remember is I put the trolling motor in, took a cast or two and thought "no way..already?!!"

This season no such luck.

A few years back I was sitting around on a November afternoon, wanting to get out fishing for the afternoon bite. I talked my wife into bundling up and going out in the 40 degree, thirty mph winds. I told her we'd stay out of the wind and only be out two hours or so. We get to the spot and I get her a bulldawg and her rod out. While I'm digging for the bulldawg I caught my fish on the day before, I look up and tell her how we were working the baits this time of year, only to be told, "I know how to fish!" I look back down momentarily and hear, "I got one!" I thought she was joking but the big swirl and bend on her rod told me otherwise. She ends up landing a 47" muskie, her largest ever, on the third cast. I hadn't even gotten my bait wet yet. That was like four years ago, and I still hear about it. The funny thing is, about ten casts after repositioning the boat, I had another fish crush my bulldawg but manage not to get hooks in it. Judging by the size of the swirl and the initial strike, I'd guess it was another mid forty inch fish. It could have been one of those once in a lifetime things that happens every so often, as Randy Moss once said.
