Bait Fishing

The lesser species thread prompted this post, Many times while crusing from one spot to another I will stop to fish a school of suspended baitfish that I see on my Depthfinder, if I don't see or get any Muskie I will toss out a small jig & Minnow to try and catch some of the Baitfish just to see what they are, by doing so I have had some great times catching baitfish such as a dozen crappies that ran from 12 -14 inches or a school of 18 inch walleyes that kept us busy for hours of course only keeping what we would eat for dinner that night.

Has anybody else had some succesful baitfish days doing this?

For sure dude...most of our fishing here is done like that. Usually there are rockfish under these schools as well as walleyes or white bass...often times you can sit over the school + drop a spoon, bucktail or poagy bait over the side + hang on....also I keep an 8' spinning rod ready w/ a Redfin or Thunderstick in case they decide to surface, making for an exciting time![:sun:]
