| So we're working a fish... A BIG fish, probably 45#... We've had this fish up 13 times in two days, on a bunch of different lures. Towards the end of day two of stalking this fish, here she comes again. Right on the bait, (again) coming in fast (again) Only this time, instead of making 1/2 turn and going straight like every other time, she's staying with the lure. Twice around, way more agressive this time, she finally charges the lure as I speed up into the outside turn. Here we go, she's gonna eat!
*BONK!*
I'm not sure if she tried to eat the trolling motor or if she just ran into it, but that was the last time we ever saw her.

Location: deep in the slop | The group of guys from the flatlanders chapter that tought me told a similar story, except that the musky hit the trolling motor prop as its target out of no where, no follow didnt even seen the fish. double thirteens are not big enough! oh my gosh i think i just started the triple bladed bucktail craze!!!!! |

i've done some similar things with running following fish into the boat and i thought it was ME that was dumb for how i did my figure-8.
now i find out it's the FISH that's the dummy???

Location: Algonquin, ILL | I had a 36 incher come torpedoing in on a fig 8, missed the bait and hit the boat, must have knocked itself silly because it just laid there and twitched for a few seconds and then took off like a bat out of H###

| I have had at least a 1/2 dozen muskies hit my t-motor.One fish in particular totaly engulfed the lower unit front first and got about four good headshakes on it before letting go.That fish was big,well over 30lbs sprayed tons of water and rocked the front of the boat real good,funny thing about that day was the fish were being tough and couldnt get them interested in anything,go figure!

Unless you are fishing from the other side of the boat, in which case you take her right...

| Sled, dumb would be whacking a fish with the rod during the figure 8 and scaring it away. And I'm just that good where I'd never do that, not ever. Nope, not me, no way.

Location: Lake Tomahawk, Musky Central, USA | Heh, had that happen numerous times last year alone...I truly believe that those are the hungry stupid ones, kinda like my beagle.
Kinda on subject, last year I was releasing a 39"er at night, and well lost my grip. Hit reverse and puttted back slowly looking to see if she was still on the surface to just make sure we were with the fish, well she was...musta made a big loop and was charging the back of the boat like Jaws! BONK-gone.
Anywho, bet we could make a pretty big list pointing to why muskies are dumb if we tried:D Anyone ever encountered a similar situation as the guy in the beginning of the post? We did, except the fish didn't run into the boat..it came up on every bait, dang near every cast, all summer long... and I am still sure it was smiling with a cigar in it's mouth as it swam away, each and every time. It was also a trained tail splasher that would get us most the time. Granted it wasn't no 45#...but definately a #30, that probably would drive me bonkers
edit: PS!!! Who needs a trollin motor when you got DC10s?!!! hahahaham for real..atleast in the boats I fish outta

| different fish, not as big, maybe 51", comes roaring out of the weeds behind a black/silver flasher. No doubt about it, this one's eating 30 feet out from the boat. Finally, one that I don't have to work for! No way I can possibly blow it on one that eats way out there, right?
*chomp*
Or so I thought anyway.
Followed all the way to the boat, made the first turn and kept right on going. As it went past I could see red tinsel and feathers sticking out of its mouth.

| You can't catch them all, Andy. We saw a good 20 fish over 50" for the week, caught a few, got to net a 52" for Mike, and chased an absolute monster around for two days. I don't think two hours went by the whole week that I wasn't reminded why I fish for these things. Plus, I got my biggest fish to date, just over 49". I guess it depends on how you look at it, but to me that isn't bad luck at all. |
