Location: Kronenwetter, WI | Good news...Boated two fish last night 44 and 35 on the WI River...
Bad news...cost me a skeg when I dinged rock skimming over shallow water...
How many skegs have you had replaced on your motor? Mine is in the shop right now having the 3rd one welded on.

Location: Lafayette, IN | Zero for me. But, I nearly lost mine when my boat trailer rolled backwards into the brick corner of my garage. Looked like the dorsal fin on a sick killer whale! Was able to straighten it thanks to some tips from my local boat mechanic. For those who come in contact with too many rocks, thank goodness for TIG welders!

| Count my lucky stars, I'm +1 in the skeg category.
Fishing in Canada a few weeks ago, I noticed something white on a rock we were casting around. After fishing the area, we pulled up and managed to use a paddle to flip it into the net......the skeg a fellow lost on that rock. Found out from the resort owner that he lost it about 3 weeks earlier. Hopefully I learned my lesson and can stay +1.

Location: Yahara River Chain | I am -1 as I hit a reef on LOTW in the late 90s. Just took the tip off and the rock touched each of the three blades. No vibration but one heck of steering torque on the tiller handle. Needed to drive 12 miles back to the mainland from base camp. Steering toque + weeks worth of gear + leg over the tiller handle = sore shoulder. |

Location: Lake Tomahawk, Musky Central, USA | Fishing the stretch of the river up here by me, my friend and I have never screwed up a skeg or the prop and we've hit a ton of rocks...the old johnson 9.9 finally pooped out though. Lil trick for fishin the river is to break the pin thats holds your motor down, so when you do hit a rock it hits it with a lot less pressure. Never lost any skegs or lower units personally, but on Eagle one year I remember my dad ripping the skeg off in the morning, then in the evening while returning to the lodge for dinner we smoked a marked rock along east long island..waves were so big he didn't see the jug. And there went the lower unit.

Location: Rhinelander. | Took achunk out of one on the pit. Really strange to. It was not the tip or bottom of sk. It was just a junk out between the prop and it. About size od a 50 cent piece.

| 3, one on the chip with my old 25 hp tiller a long time ago, 2 on Lac Seul with my 115 Merc one of which included a stainless steel prop and a new propeller shaft. |

| broke mine off on a lake I can't even use my outboard on. haven't replaced it yet, 60 hp - can't notice any difference without it although i know the prop is unprotected now. also broke off that other little fin thingy - not sure what that one is for either. |

Location: Davenport, IA | I should have mine replaced...its a little wavy after forgetting to trim the motor up at a boat launch. It doesn't turn corners as easily anymore. |

Blackfin skegs look like they might have a reasonable answer for you skegbusters! |
