Location: Hayward, WI | It sounds like a lot of guys are really getting into these rods and liking them. Everyone is talking about how easy they make throwing baits like 13 inch Suzy's and Pounders. But, in most of Lambeau's reports on the rod he says it is more suited to swimbait style lures due to the slower action of the rod.
I definately agree with what he says about the Edge Series rods from Keith. They have a nice tip - soft enough to keep fish pinned up, but plenty of backbone for really ripping baits like the 11 inch Curly Sues. Seems like working the baits hard is what's been working lately.
I'm a little worried that I would buy this rod, and it would throw the baits well, but I would be wore out trying to rip them back to the boat.
Also, as much as I like the Edge rod, it actually seems to load up a fair amount in the "8" with a double Cowgirl. Seems like a slower rod that loaded more could be quite a workout on the 8's with double cowgirls for any length of time.
So, how well are you able to rip big baits like Pounders, and how well do the rods respond to big double 10's on the 8? The biggest of the castable plastics and double 10's would be the primary use for this rod.
A side question...which maybe deserves another thread altogether or a call to Keith: How heavy of a bait can you safely and (relatively) comfortably cast on the Edge Series rods by Pro Edge? I have been throwing baits up to the 11 inch Curly Sues with mine (12 ounces), and it has done fine. Will the extra 2-4 ounces of a 13 inch Suzy or Pounder be too much - especially when we get some cold weather in the fall? I know people cast the biggest Suzy's on them, is that the very upper limit or can they stand another couple ounces? I like my Edge rod too much to risk taxing it more than I should, and it sounds like the Okuma might be a good one for the really big baits in the fall.

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Ive been really happy with the Okuma 8'6" telescoping rod. I throw the Nutbuster, DC10, Violent strike 8by10, and other big blades with it effortlessly; looking forward to some Wabigoon action next week with the rods. I did add rod balancer weight to the butt, makes a great rod even easier to use; I have balancers on all my rods, actually. I also have a couple 8 Fig Rig Tooth Tamers, good rods as well for the big stuff. | |

Location: Seymour, WI | Where can you buy the Okuma rods? I was in Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday and they had a couple 7 footers, but that was it. What stores are stocking these rods?
