Location: Browerville, Minnesota | Off for Bay Store tomorrow morning for Operation Muskie!! Know that Lambeau has already started making his way in that direction. I will have my laptop up at the resort and will try to get some pics of any fish caught posted up here on the site, providing the network will sustain it, otherwise I will post them up when I get back on Saturday. Looking forward to a great time and some BIG fish! |

Location: Browerville, Minnesota | Couldn't agree with Lambeau more. Just an incredibly great time for all involved. Weather was great and so was the fishing. Moved ALOT of big fish. Final numbers were something in the neighborhood of 43 muskies caught. Largest for guides was 52" and largest for the vets was David Winther's 49.5. I had the honor of being in the boat with him and all I can say is boy was he excited! It was more than cool to watch him land that fish. Here are a couple of pics from the outing.......

Location: Roseau | What was working the best for the group? We were up Saturday and Sunday and Saturday morning moved a few fish, other than that it was the dead sea, ended up trolling shads for walleye and did very well. That must have been a great trip with all the top notch guides!! Is it on for next year also?
Thanks |

Location: Browerville, Minnesota | Had fish on a little bit of everything. I know the 49.5 was caught on a spinner bait, the 48 was caught on double 10's. Also had lots of fish on Top Raiders. I know the boats I was in the active color was White with copper/gold blades. Can't forget the Ace Tandems were moving and catching lots of fish as well. Mr Pearson, Mr Walsh, Mr Johnson and myself are just starting to talk, but it sounds as if there is a very good possibility of an Operation Muskie 2009. Soon as we have things set in stone and up and running we will start looking for vets to fill our 20 spots!! STAY TUNED!! |

my brother and i each got a smaller fish on a Pacemaker. as Bret mentioned my brother's big fish was on a spinnerbait that Jack Burns gave to him, i lost 2 fish in the figure-8 on double-10s; i got a 48 in the figure-8 with a Big Game minnowbait and moved a couple other nice ones on it; Paul Klein got a 48 on a Jake, so slow twitching minnowbaits seemed to work alright too.
from my perspective, the key seemed to be location and presentation speed more than lure type. in the mornings we found fish up on the rocks in the sun responding to slower retrieves, mid-day they clearly slid off the edge a bit deeper and would come up for fast-moving stuff, and in the evening were back up on shallow rock structure liking it a tad slower.
Bret - keep us posted on next year so that i know when/where to send the donation check and can help "pay it forward" for another vet to experience!

Location: Ogden, Ut | Congrats to all who landed fish, and some big fish at that. David - nice work on the 49.5! Thanks to all of the organizers for putting something like this together and the guides for generously donating their time and knowledge for such a worthy cause. Most of all thank you vets for the personal sacrifices you have made in service to your country. I know that I personally reap the benefits of your dedication. You truly are heroes, each and every one of you. May many more muskies grace your presence.
