Location: Marshfield, WI | I've only fished it twice but I do know this: The lake has LOTS of unmarked rockbars that come out of nowhere. Get a good map, but go slow and keep an eye on your electronics. There are a lot of rockbars that aren't on any map. If you see it getting shallower, stop. The rockbars rise up very fast.

... go somewhere else.
Seriously. I share Bill Garner's sentiment of uselessness for the hole in the earth that is Crab Lake. |

| Yea be careful, I've been fishing Crab for 9 years and it still claimed a lower unit last year and another prop this year. Go slowwwww and be alert! Frustrating lake but has produced some nice fish over the years with persistance late season, great small mouth action! |

Location: N.FIB | first of all, what everybody saying about go slow is right.I would say fish the lake your first time out on a sunny day that way you can see the reefs good with your glasses on,then maybe come back on a darker day so you have a clue where some of the major reefs are.Topwater did real good for me the first year that I fished the lake, globes and top h2o worked great. Also it doesn`t matter what color lure you throw as long as it has black in it,black and orange works well on that lake. And by the way, don`t fish the lake if it is real windy for your first time out, there are some areas that you could get into some trouble on a windy day. |

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Crab Lake is a minefield. I fished a small part last October with Muskynightmare (Rob Petersen) in his boat. Wow, those reefs do come up fast- lot's of great structure to fish. I'm planning on fishing it again in my boat- but I wouldn't even consider putting Esox Maniac up on plane or even running faster than idle speed.
At the MF Presque Isle Outing last year Adam Johnson (Owner of Skyview Lodge) was marking maps for fishing spots and showing guy's how to safely run to the other side of the lake using specific landmarks. You might want to stop at Skyview Lodge & chat with Adam about Crab. Besides, they've got great food & cold refreshments.
First time on Crab- Just launch & put your trolling motor down & start fishing. If you feel the need to explore first- idle speed! You might even want to trim the motor up a little, and even then definitely have your hand on the throttle control at all times! Right Rob?
tfootstalker - I detect a small note of bitterness in your thread - lower unit????
Have fun!

There is no map of that lake that is even close to being 100 percent accurate. Take your time, get to know her slowly, and you will fall in love with Crab, just as I have. |
