Location: NYC (and many weeks in MN during summer) | which leaders do you guys use, titanium, 7 strand, single wire or flouro when throwing soft plastic baits like dawgs, curly sues etc.
I prefer the flouro myself for the action I get, but am finding that I foul cast too much. Have been toying with the idea of single strand but worried about running too deep. What do you dawg experts say?
Thanks

If you stop the spool with your thumb before the bait hits the water it will straighten the bait out and it won't get fouled as much. |

| I would say you may get a SLIGHT bit more action on fluoro, but the way those fish have a tendency to swallow the bait keeps me using 174lb. single strand steel. There was a post by Tfootstalker about his trip to the northwoods and it shows a fluoro leader bitten straight through while he was using a Pounder. I like fluoro a lot, but PERSONALLY am not a huge fan of it in these situations. I also don't think the baits run any deeper on the wire I'm using, but I've never really compared the two (I'd imagine the weight from the steel leader is essentially negligible). |

Location: NYC (and many weeks in MN during summer) | I too throw just about everything with #130 seagur flouro. And yes I thumb the spool before the bait hits the water too. But I still often foul, especially with the dunwright platics. I have a theory that the "foul" occurs on the "wind up", or as the bait goes back and loads up. I also think that the wire would eliminate most of that. I have no fear of flouro, I make my own with premium components and have NEVER had one of mine fail. Other brands have.
Perhaps the slightly stiffer titanium leader will solve my problem and still afford me a bit of flexibility like flouro.

Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | 12-14" Floro for me.......... What is a foul ???? The tail around the back hook once in a while, but never fouled around the leader.

Location: Land of the Musky | I use the Stealth 130lb fluoro for Mag SuperD swimbaits. I have had a few engulfed and not a scratch on the floro leaders. I was using wire but they kink so much. Never been much of a cable leader user so I can't comment on those. |
