I was wondering if anyone has any expirience with the Musky Innovations flourocarbon leaders. Last night in a pinch, they were the only ones available so I picked up two of them in the 18" 80lb. Any good or bad things to be worried about here?

80 is pretty weak imo. I'd try to use a something with more strength, 100 at a minimum.

I've known 80lb to hold up to multiple fish, I've also heard of it failing on the first fish. I've heard stories of even 130 lb. failing. I would also suggest 100lb. That's what I use, and I have never had it fail personally. In a pinch though, I wouldn't hesitate going with 80lb, if it's all I can find.

80lb. was the biggest they had. How about the constuction of the MI leaders. Are they good, bad, or otherwise?

i havent had any problem with them. granted i havent tangled with a real giant, but i put two fish in the boat on the same leader and it was fine...... still using it......./

i can see going bigger, but i think it will work fine! keep an eye on it, after each strike, each time you move locations, and especially after you catcha fish......... some swear by them, while others swear at them......
all a matter of preference

I caught over 30 pike on an MI flouro leader my first year in Canada. Still held up. Looked a little "iffy" So I retired it after that. I'd say no worries on their leaders.

I run 130 and 150 lb floro on all my setups and have never had an issue.I have had fish inhale baits on multiple occasions
with lots of line to teeth contact with zero issues. The ones i use are by stringease with seagar floro.

I had 130# Seagar fail two nights in a row, one of those a clean bite off. I don't trust the stuff period. Maybe for things like bucktails and topwater where the bait comes in stright, but eractic stuff not so much. A piece of advice given to me: if you can cut it with a knife...

I run 130# seagur flouro on most of my rods, except for jerkbait/gliders and some topwaters. I have had multiple fish on many of them with no problem, although I make them myself with top notch compononets. I buy the flouro in bulk, as well as Thorne Br ball bearing swivels (forgot the brand) and MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE STRINGEASE LOCKS!!!!! I have every snap fail, including a $12 spro leader which failed after just changing lures on a one week trip, not even a fish on that particular leader, just from opening and closing it. Also had a MI fail like that too, but after a longer time in use.

Making your own leaders guarantees the best quality and construction, isn't very hard and will save you a little bit of money. Heck, I can make a leader, including shrink wrapping the crimp in 60 seconds.

I tie my own with 150# Seaguar Premium fluoro, never had a problem whatsoever. A lot cheaper than buying them too!

I was with tfootstalker when he had the seagar fail. I originally thought that there had to be nick in the flouro and broke upon hookset, but after loosing a fish the next night and discovering the leader almost bitten through i was shocked. I will continue to use the 130# seagar until i have a failure myself. Only because i know the Stalker too well, if it can go wrong it will. So it doesnt surprise me that it happened to him.

the thought of maybe killing a good fish due to a bait stuck in their mouth was enough to convert me away after a 'near miss'. had a 34"er chew 1/2 way thru a flouro leader in 2 places- my thought was "if a 34"er can do that, what will a big girl do"... seriously, think about it. all the guys who have had good luck so far, it's only a matter of time before your luck runs out. i'm with greg and tfoot...

make sure its good flouro. I have no idea what brand line MI uses, but it doubt its seagur. make sure its actually flouro and not mono. 130 is the lightest test one should use. 80lb isnt enough to handle a quick stop from a backlash...specially with a dawg or something heavy. i have used thorne's leaders for four straight years and have NEVER had a single issue. cannot say thought about straigh wire or seven strand. flouro lasts a long time imo. still using some that are 2 years old. there are individuals who use them for work....all year long/everyday/all day....and never have issues with them either. to each thier own though.

probably close to 1000 muskies between both me and Jason Hamernick on Stealth Flouro leaders, in the 130 and 150 pound test and NOT ONE bite off or break.

If you are getting bit off or having them break, it is probably due to one of two things....1. Cheap flouro. Not all flouro is made equally and some will break, get cut, etc... 2. To light of line, I wouldn't use anything under 130 Seaguar. If you do, you will have problems. Clear is clear...so it really doesn't matter if it is 130 or 300 pound test, clear is clear.

Don't use cheap stuff or you will have issues. Also alot of guys have what appears to be bite off's but it is really the crimp cutting the line. Stealth leaders use a knot, then glue then they crimp the tag end down. I have seen it several times where people make their own leaders and actually cut into their flouro by crimping it wrong.

With the success rate of Stealth leaders, don't worry one bit.

100% Stealth Leaders and nothing else!!! I put a new one on for my Canada trip this year and boated close to 50 pike in a week. Many in the 30"-45" category and I never changed my Stealth flouro leader. Still on my rig and you can hardly tell it took a beating on all of those teeth. Great leaders and I would not buy anything else. I would not even try to make my own leaders. I have a 50"+ fish in my future and I would like a picture with it John is also one hell of a guy and really cares about his products and quality.
