Location: NYC (and many weeks in MN during summer) | the 14 is nearly the same size as the 400. I have on a few occasions wanted to grab one and picked up the other by mistake (they are both on similar rods).
With that being said, the changes in the trinidad as far as line retrieve per turn doesnt change until the 16. If I'm not mistaken, the 12 and 14 share the same capabilites spec wise with the 14 having a larger spool capacity. I am happy with the 14, but the spool capacity isn't much difference and if I had it to do over, I'd probably go with the 12 as its a little smaller (think 300 size) and lighter and wouldn't compromise performance.
