| My family and I are going to Vermillion the last week in July and I'm looking for any suggestions on a guide. We'll be staying on the west end at Spring Bay Resort. I realize this is short notice for most guides since they book up well in advance but any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Location: Hugo, MN | Luke Ronnestrand, Jason Hamernick, Chad Cain, Tom Wehler. All good guys, might be hard to find an opening, but definitely worth trying. Sometimes there are cancellations and you may be able to get in last minute. |

Oh ya Hamerneck, ... These Guys know the lake ALMOST as good as I do... LOL.
Seriously, save yourself at least 3 days of usless exploration and hire one of these guys... It will be the best money you have ever spent on this great fish we call Muskie .............. Don't forget to tip.....

| Friendly tip to guides receiving calls when they are already booked: Call back and say so.
Thanks.
The one guide that did this to me, received a later booking, and will most likely now receive the bulk of my guided trips over the next few years.. |

| Muskytom, Ace, Dave Swenson, Bill Rosner, Paul Pollack are some of the better local guides. I would contact Spring Bay and see who they recommend. |

| I would give Ace a serious consideration. He jumps on this board a lot and gives reports and helps people out. I would try and support the people that make this site what it is. His contact info is:

Location: Lake Tomahawk, WI | I think Chad is doing Leech this year, could be wrong.
Matt Snyder or 'Da Man' Musky Tom.
Hammernick catches a lot of big fish up there too, but he only guides there during select times.
Most of the above mentioned are pretty booked right now, I would contact them asap and if you could be flexible schedule-wise on your end you may be able to get a day booked. I can personally vouch for the 4 I mentioned, you'll have a blast and they'll work their tails off to put you on fish.

Location: algonquin Illinois | Fished with Matt Snyder last year. We had a great time. He put us on some great fish. Will be fishing with him in about ten days. I'd give him a call and see if he has any openings. His info is on the Muskie first Vermillion outing sponser page. |

| I can't resist this.
The other post that was up about whether fish count that you catch with a guide never really dealt with what fishing with a guide is all about. On Vermillion, or any other lake that is thousands of acres full of structure and dangers, you will save yourself so much time by hiring a guide just to take you for a ride and show you points of interest that his fee is worth every penny without ever making a cast.
I've only hired a guide 3 times, and twice it was just to go for a ride and see the lake and some of the major points of interest. One of the guides knew that I was with my daughter, so he showed me perch and bluegill areas as well as areas that held lots of pike so she wouldn't get bored.
You are doing the right thing by hiring a guide on Vermillion, whether to fish or learn the area. It's usually a combination of learning the area, doing some fishing and learning some techniques that the guide uses up there. A wise investment.
Have a good trip.

Spent 3 days with John mid June - 1st time to Vermilion - Awesome local guide. Would not use any others, unless John is away. We had a great time. Fishing was slow due to weather but I now have a basic understanding of the lake. Will use again.

Location: Kronenwetter, WI | For others looking for a guide, Dave Swenson did an awsome job for us last year...he ran us all over the east and west ends and explained the most recent patterns...he even marked up our map when we got back to the dock...and also put us onto numerous big fish. He also won the PMTT out on that lake two years' back, so that tells you something. |
