...Weagle! (what were you thinking i meant?)
in the fall of '06 when i was ordering a replica from Lax my wife asked me what i would do if i ever caught one bigger. i laughed and said that i had caught the fish of a lifetime and there was no chance it would happen again.
summer of '07 i had to call her from the lake and eat crow because i topped it by the narrowest of margins with an extra 0.25". but that time i was really sure that it was the peak since lightning struck twice.
well...it's summer of '08, and on Sunday morning i had to make another phone call to her from the lake. for whatever reasons i've been blessed and was able to catch lightning in a bottle for the third time in a row. at 54" on the nose, this girl topped both of the other fish i've been fortunate enough to release.
we raised one and then lost one a few minutes earlier before tying into this girl. she ate the 10" Weagle and put up a nice fight, including rolling up in the line at boatside before sliding into the net.
the whole thing's on hat-cam video as well, i'll upload that at the end of the week when i get back home to my own computer.
please support the efforts of those who are working to ensure that the Long Range Plan in Minnesota for muskie and pike goes into effect. the future of these quality fisheries depends on it, and that plan depends on our vocal support.

I need to fish with you more often. Once, maybe luck, twice, you would have to be unbelievably lucky. A third time, without question there is a bunch of big fish understanding going on.
Nice Work!
BTW I vote the middle pic for the Okuma monthly photo contest.

Congrat's on an awesome catch! The fish is gorgeous, and yes, that head shot holding her by the gill plate really puts it in perspective.

Awesome fish.
Thanks for mentioning the Long Range Plan. Certain forces in Mn. are pulling out all the stops to STOP the success the Mn. Muskie Program has achieved. I know most of the Muskie fisherman I know and fish with here in Mn. supported the GrBay raised minimums. It couldn't hurt if the MNDNR heard from some of you Wis. Muskie anglers in support of the Long Range Mn. Plan.

Is that a hook left in upper lip?
nope, fish was hooked on the right side lower jaw.
i cut hooks without ever bothering to try pulling them and then used the pliers to pull the barbs out.
what color weagle?
white with black spots and chartreuse belly.
you know, the one i tried to sell half you guys at the Chicago show...
here's a shot that shows off the girth a bit better.

Scary big fish!!! Fish looks to be in great shape. Can only imagine what she will look like in her old age. Maybe another inch or 2 and if she pigs out, could easily add some girth. Because this fish looks in such good shape, would love to have had this fish electronically tagged. Rare to have that beauty of a fish without one fin in the grave.
Congrats on what I hope is NOT your fish of a lifetime.
Randy
btw, did it look up close like that fish had been hooked before?

Lambeau, I could swear I saw you on V, Greenwood Bay area. Stayed with a friend that has a place up there. We fished three days, took two fish on 10" Weagles, as well. One @ 48, one @ 49.
Edit: Grats on the Sow, crow never tasted so good, huh?

Great fish!!! I named her "old faithful" due to the amount of water that she pushed when she ate. Looked like old faithful erupting. Not always easy to be the net man, thought for sure she was getting off when I pulled the net back and she went to the front of the boat. Needless to say it was a great day! BG

Very cool video Mike, thanks for sharing.
Congrats again.....to you also, Winston. It had to be nerve racking being the net man with her boat side antics.
Mike I thought you had the July lunker wrapped up with that beast....BUT along came Adam armed with a Dinnerbell.

yeah...apparently i was fishing with the wrong friend's bait?
that's two years in a row, Adam...!
(fellow CCMI member Adam Oberfoell boated a 54.75" slob on Vermilion last week. his consistency in catching huge fish is simply amazing: a 55"er on Vermilion last year, a 50lber on Mille Lacs last year, a near-55" this year...read his article in this month's Muskie magazine and read it well, he knows what he's talking about.)
