When do crankbaits with soft plastic tails work better than those without tails? And, when would it be best to use crankbaits without a soft plastic tail?

Are some baits better with a tail or better without a tail?

Is it tails or no tails? What do you like and why?

MB, It is my opinion that a crank with a plastic tail works better on high pressure waters. I started using one on the lake I fish commonly and started moving more fish on a regular basis. I believe it just gives them something different to look at. I also find they are a valuable tool that can be used in many different ways; straight cranking, a jerk bait, a twitch bait. Just my .02

At times the tail makes a differance. It may be the little extra that triggers a nutral fish at times. I like them in low light. I think the tail moves water and add's vibration in low light.
