Location: Stevens Point, Wisconsin | Been up for 4 days now and only 8 fish with one nice 48. Water very dirty everywhere! Muskies are sleeping and if you see 9 in a day it's a good day. Getting 1 to 2 fish a day if your lucky. Suicks are doing the best for me with the slow action it's almost like a fall bite right now. Today was warm but windy and with the high water it just keeps getting more and more dirty! Did have a low 50's up the other morning and lost another good fish but it;s very slow! Mid lake stuff is dead! Weeds or bust.... ok well another 7 and 7 to drink now....good night from the inlet.

Do you think that is the case??

Location: Warroad, Mn | I suspect that water clarity is the biggest problem. Fish are usually quite active when it's in the high 60's and low 70's. Pretty slow right now.

Ed , I know you kick some serious butt on those Muskie. Sounds like your doing good with 8 fish in 4 days, compare to most. My wife and I will be up on the 13th. Hopefully your water clarity improves.
Keep us informed buddy!!! How's the headbanger working???

Location: Stevens Point, Wisconsin | Keep looking for clean water but it's not easy. High winds again today and after 12 hours we finaly boated a fish at 9:50 pm tonight. Did see one other fish today, yep thats right we did see 2 fish today...LOL I feel like I'm in the twilight zone and all the muskies have been removed from LOTW. Looks like some cool days over the next couple days...all you can do is just keep fishing good spots and hope they show up! Need a couple calm warm days to settle things down some.

That depends. I'd say if you were new to the lake, that's a great day. If you're a guy like Doug Johnson or Ed Sproel I might be inclined to think they would have higher expectations (but I should let them give you their opinions). It also depends on the weather. If it's post-frontal I'd say that's pretty good. Seeing 9 fish during a warm, increasing water temp trend might leave me disappointed. Might also depend on how many spots you hit. Point is, there are lots of variables... |

Location: Stevens Point, Wisconsin | This time of year I will normally see 20-30 fish a day. Yesterday we boated 1 and raised 1 more. Right now the winds are gusting 25MPH out of the NW and it's maybe 60 outside. The day before we did not see a fish until 9:00 pm and boated one at 9:50 pm. Water is very very murky no matter where you go in the NW Angle. Water temps still 67-69 but just a few days ago I found water as cold as 65. Weed growth is good in some areas but fish are either not there or they are not responding to baits. Rain and cold yesterday, more rain today and cold and rain forcasted for tomorrow. Looks to warm up by the weekend but really the issue is water clearity. You could always find clean water somewhere but not this year. One good thing is that there is no bloom, LOL. Talking with Doug yesterday and he has started trolling....Well time to bundle up and make my way across the white caps and head to a calm section of the lake. Winds fron the south one day, east the next and NW today making the lake a big mixing bowl. High water washing all the clay silt into the lake. I smell a skunk today!

Location: Albertville, Minnesota | Ed! Whats up buddy. Sorry to hear the conditions, looks like the weather should get better though, but who knows about the clarity. We are heading up Friday, staying at Youngs. Going earlier this year due to weddings and such. But thanks big time for the reports!
Is even Skeet dirty? I will Pm you. But good luck man and hope it changes for you. If you are still up there this weekend, should compare notes or get a beer.

Location: Madison, WI | Im leaving this afternoon for the Morson area...staying with some friends out of Swens Bay. Gray Alumacraft. Im sure we will see each other bouncing up and down going across the big water. Reports I have heard are all the same, tough with the high/dirty water. Wind blown rocky points on the windy side. Nothing new really. Good luck. |

| Hey esox50 we stay down the way from buena vista and fill up with gas there most of the time. I'll look for you at the bar. How many guys are in your trip? We have 6 if everybody hangs in there. We had a couple guys cancel. Even though my buddies cabin is free gas is still going to cost me over 1700 bucks. 6.90 per gallon on the water at buena vista. my boat holds 40 gallons I considering yanking it and taking it into town to save 40 bucks a fill up.

You won't find us at the bar... we'll be out fishing instead!
Our group will have a BUNCH of people. It's like a family/friend annual reunion. Our boat will have 3 guys and a dog. Look for a black/tan Crestliner 1850 "Muskie Edition" with twin Mercs on the back. The reports I've been getting are looking good compared to other parts of the lake. My understanding is the water isn't nearly as dirty in Sab Bay/Nestor Falls as elsewhere on the lake. |

Location: Stevens Point, Wisconsin | Hey Jim,
I will be staying one more week with Phil, we will be in cabin 9 at Angle Outpost. It's been a little bit of a struggle for both Phil and me. Today between our 2 boats we raised 13 fish and caught 4 but all in the mid 30's. Today it was nice with low winds and sun and the water temps came up a bit. The last couple days it's been a late afternoon bite with most action between 4pm and 7pm.
Where are you going to be staying?

Are you still fishing that globe thing...or are you using your favorite Mepps now?
Sounds like you will need your Life vests this weekend! Good Luck Guys!!! Be Safe!

Location: Stevens Point, Wisconsin | Jim,
Just shows how crazy these fish have been, globe raised 16 fish one day and not a sinle fish the next. I would have to say the the buck tail bite is improving but all my larger fish were caught on suicks. My boat partner has been throwing the double 10's and seeing more fish on those than the smaller marabou's. My front deck has baits scattered all over the place! No one real pattern to pin your hopes on. Fish the last couple days have been showing up on rock/weed islands. The broad leaf cabbage is there even thou you cannot see it. Late afternoon bite, when you return to spots fished in the morning that showed no fish, they show up late in the day. Feeling it's a case of the fish not being able to see the baits as they sit at the base of the cabbage. No evening top water bite to speak of and like I said you have very short feeding windows each day. Phil is helping Rick with the guids choice school this week and it's been hard for them this week. 12 fish for me so far since July 2nd. I keep telling myself that they have to bust loose one of these days but with winds gusting to 40mph tonight and maybe 50mph Sat it might just have to wait a couple days. Weather looks better for next week! This is not the LOTW I know?

Location: LOTW every chance I get | More of the same up in the north end of the lake (Ptarmigan/Ash Rapids). The water clarity is not an issue here, but the fishing is slow. I've had the most luck moving fish with slow rolled spinnerbaits, but they don't want to commit. Yesterday I brought one to the boat with a Manta, but she just slow rolled on it with her mouth open and I couldn't hook up. Very frustrating and doesn't look to get better soon. Massive cold front moving through with VERY high winds and cold temps. Water temp still only 67-68 and dropping. Glad I have another two weeks of holidays in August!

Location: LOTW every chance I get | Water levels are way up and rising, check www.lwcb.ca for exact levels and trends. Temps around Ptarmigan Narrows, fairly close to Kenora, were about 65 deg as of yesterday but vary greatly by area. The fish I have been seeing are shallow and in/near weeds. Spinnerbaits seem to be working best for me. Good luck!

| just got back from lotw, fished tues thru sat around Big Narrows area and south. Our group boated 19 and saw 15-20 a day. All deep in the weeds only 1 or 2 came from a rock, mostly right on top of the weed beds in shallow water tight to shore or reeds. They would move out to the edge of the weeds and follow but not hit, the ones on top of the weeds hit. The more weeds and slop the better. The water temps started at 68 tues up to 71-72 by saturday. 14 of the 19 were on 8" top waters the rest on small spinners or bucktails. The fishing got better each day and was crazy on sat, 50.5" 45.5", 42", 33" in an hour. |

Location: SE, WI. | LOTW's Gang and Musky Time ED. Needless to say the woods is heating up. Ed, My wife and I stuck 31 ski's from the 14th thru the 24th. 19 fish were 39 1/2 to 49 1/4. Lynne got the 2 largest being 49" on a M-9, and a 49 1/4 on a Gerry girl!!! But NO fifties.
Headbangers, Smallbucktails were hot early in the trip...Then crank's , Headbangers, and Gerrygirls got the nod late in the trip.
The big narrows was a Zoo last 2 weeks. Tried to fish it a couple of times with boats on every spot. Even had people cut us off on some spots...SAD!!! Got the heck out of that area. That was the key! Get away from the preasure and fish fresh spots!!! Awesome Trip!!!
