Where can I find...

Subject: Where can I find...

Hi guys,

Two part question:

1. Where can I find the old Mister Twister "Weedless Super Top Prop", when they still made it with bucktail hair? I just got off the phone with Rollie and Helen's, and they now sell these baits with just a single hook, and rubber twister tail. (It's depicted on page 102 of the 2008 Rollie and Helen's Catalog for those who don't know what I'm talking about) The folks at Rollie and Helen's seem to think that the prop with bucktail hair is a discontinued bait. Is that true? I know that it existed at one time, because I own two of the old style baits.

2. If I can't find any more of these baits, anybody else have suggestions for good baits that can be walked over lily pads / and through the thickest slop imaginable? I'll be fishing Osbourne and Nivens Bay areas in a couple weeks, and it's my understanding that some of these fish will be in such heavy slop that traditional topwaters won't even be able to effectively work this cover without getting fouled.

Thanks in advance,
"Jackpot" John Schroeder

Keith Worrall of Violent Strike Spinnerbaits makes some awesome buzzbaits that will work really well for what you need them for. I've put a few fish in the boat with those.

Jack Shriver's double-prop buzzbaits and Boogerman buzzbaits would fit the bill nicely. Might consider a Frogzilla for the scenario you mentioned, particularly if there's matted vegetation involved.

Just a note regarding the hair version of the Super Top Prop. It is still available through Mister Twister. Oftentimes when one of us at R&H says that a lure is discontinued we mean that it is no longer stocked by us. This is usually due to space limitations or lackluster sales or product availability. If you want them contact ME at the shop on Wednesday and I'll put in a special order for you. The other option is to get a STP and change out the single hook/twister combo with a Mepps replacement tail.
