I'm having a little problem with my Abu 6500c4 that I can't figure out. The problem I'm having is that when I start to reel, the push button does not disengage and the reel just sits there and spins. I am able to just grab the push button and pull it out, but it gets a little annoying when you're casting all day. Just wondering if any of you have had this problem or if you know what is wrong so I can fix it? Any help would be much appreciated.

Location: Athens, Ohio | Been there done that. C-3's have the same problem. You can try dropping reel oil down the slot next to the button, that will help for a while. I even got good at knocking the button with my thumb as part of the cast. Eventually, you'll need to send it off for repair, there's a bad part in there (i forget which one?). Once I sent my c-3 off, it has not had this problem again. m |

Location: Chicagoland | crack 'er open and see if the cast button is in the right place. It could have been jarred wile fighting fish and moved a slight distance away from where it would engage the reel when you turn the handle. Give your reel a quick grease and lube while your at it. I would do this on a couple of white sheets of paper so you don't loose any screws etc. |

| Sounds like a worn or bent clutch arm. Usually a pretty easy fix. If that is the situation, adding oil won't help. |

| Pete is right on as usual. It sounds like a worn clutch arm and is a very simple fix. The newer clutch arms are now made out of stainless steel and should hold up much better. |

Location: Litchfield, MN | Thanks for the help guys. I think the clutch arm is probably the culprit. My 6500 does not have a spring that is connected to the clutch arm, so that is definitely not the problem. I'll see if I can't get a new clutch arm and try that.

Location: manchester,england | i've got a 5501c3 with the same problem,but being lazy i put a piece of rubber tube over the button and it's been o.k since,should really fix it but as a short term fix it's been spot on in this case short term's been about 3 years
