Location: Bloomington, MN | Please someone with 3 S.I.C. immatation guides and the skill to tie them on for the cost of $50 or less, Stop me! I purchased 2 Okuma EVX XL's last year with matching Induron 400's for my friend's kids. I got the rods from R& H's & Guides Choice. I received the rods about 48 hours before my departure and didn't really check them out until I got to my destination. One of the rods had a missing guide insert and one cracked. According to Thorne's 2 more are questionable. I haven't a clue where I got the "bad" rod, and the damage did not happen during shipping or in my possession (no insert chips in the bags or box, and absolutely no sign of insert chips in my sterile garage, truck, or friends garage). For $14.95 + the cost of me shipping back pieces (minimal) Okuma will replace the rod. I guess I'm going to saw town, but Thorne would charge me a min. of $60 for the repair, not counting the 50 mile round trip in a Silverado. I hate to take advantage of a warranty issue that was not due to the manufacturer, but I guess they got the warranty thing financially figuerd out. I'm equally impressed with their great customer service as their products. I did learn a lesson up at Thorne's a few weeks back with the Okuma Induron with the power handle. It possibly depends on your casting style, but the handle Knobbie should be no more than at the 8 O'clock position during the cast. The momentum can cause the reel to engage. I just thought the kid forgot to press the button! Another bill I'm picking up!

Location: NYC (and many weeks in MN during summer) | the induron not engaging is NOT operator era, but a defect in the reel. The problem exists in the red Isis. When the thumb bar is depressed, it doesn't engage fully and the reel won't cast. Okuma is looking into it. HANDLE LOCATION ON CASTING HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!!!!!!
Contact Okuma directly!

Not true. if the power handle is in a forward and slightly downward position, it WILL occasionally engage the reel if you cast exceptionally hard. I've learned to position the handle down if I'm 'bombing' casts out there with a heavy lure.

if that is the case, then there are multiple problems with the reel. Mark has already confirmed what I wrote. I figured it out in 5 minutes casting with my red Isis. The thumbar, even though depressed, sometimes doesn't engage. If I consiously depress the bar, hard, each and every time, I doesnt false start. On other reels, (shimano's for instance,) as soon as you push the button, the reel is engaged for casting. There is somehow g with the thumbar on the okuma that doesnt allow it to fully engage without maximum pressure.

Location: Pound, WI | I'd put them both in the same tube and ship them both back. It wouldn't cost any more to ship two rods in the same tube than one rod.
