Less Rangers on the water?

Based on the number of brand new Ranger's I see on the road and on the water it is kind of surprising to see Ranger announcing it cut production by as much as 30% recently due to slowing demand. I guess people are losing their desire to go into debt $54k with the cost of everything else going through the roof. If sales don't recover does anyone think the boat builders will start re-thinking puting all the expensive components on the boats that they added over the past couple years when we were all flush with cash and they could get away with taking a $40k boat and making it a $54k boat?

The Ranger price tag is what it is, and is based on supply and demand like so many other 'disposable income' purchased items. I wouldn't hold my breath on prices coming down, because costs are skyrocketing on the fiberglass materials end of things.

I hope the economy swings back around soon, I'd hate to see Ranger cut any critical promotional activities. Believe me, there are plenty of boat companies wishing they were forced to cut production only 30%.

I think that's the reason why they came out with the Angler series. I know that the one of the local dealers is selling a ton of them. It's the Ranger name for $20,000 less.

the housing/mortgage crisis was the snowball on top of the mountain ... it's now rolling downhill and the first treeline it's hit has been the discretionary income budget which funds things like boats and rv's ... the snowball has momentum and will continue to hit industries at full force. now ... the scooter, motorcycle and small car tree-line is on an altogether different mountain.

old-repowered boats are on the increase ... business opportunity? ... maybe

The reason Ranger puts all the bells and whistles on there boats is because that's what the consumer wants. I don't buy the "making a $40k boat into a $54k boat thing" but if I was going to spend $40k on a boat I would not buy the stripped down model and would want all the bells and whistles on it.

What bells and whistles would you take off of a new Ranger, or any other brand for that matter to save some money?

i don't see a decrease in big rangers on the water..those that have it are gonna spend it...those that were just getting by before now aren't..but what I have seen is an increase in Rangers on Madison waters from IL...these guys probably were traveling to points farther north more often are now making the shorter trek...but like MercDaddy Sled said, with gas prices and the economy it's only natural that these high ticket items aren't going to sell as fast or as many....
I have seen some absolute steals on used Rangers lately though...good time to buy if you're looking

Agreed those that could afford them, bought them. Those who could probably not afford them and were financed are probably now not buying them. maybe that was the 30% of the market that was slashed. Prices will be held high for the fortunate though.

Minnetonka still has it's fair share of "high end" Rangers roaming about.

Ha, you've just recently seen these absolute steals on used Rangers? There dime a dozen with comparable price tags on used 05's to used 07's, it's been that way for quite some time! It's funny how guys ask top dollar for a used 05' because of a name. To bad reality of this is that a new non-current 07' 620 Ranger you can find for anywhere from $42-$45,000 but had you went and looked at one spring of 07', that boat was $55,000+. Kinda funny how a name does that.

I think Lund is getting that much for a new fiberglass rig because it's Lund and it's the new thing on the market. Do I think those price tags will hold forever, no, but only time will tell on how well they do with the new boat.

Sled, you mean you (finally) sold your boat? Congrats to both, it's a nice rig. Hey Jon, what did you buy or what tires are you now kicking?

it's interesting about boats ... i really had seller's remorse when jeff drove away with that boat hooked up and there are things i'll never replace for some of it's utility ... but, the tuffy esox mag that i've replaced it with has been out ... mostly drowning leeches with the kids and has already made me really happy for moving into a smaller boat for what i use it for. it's the perfect boat for my use and i'm glad to have it and feel like i made a really smart decision .... looks great on the trailer, fishes great on the water, launches in very little water where i was restricted previously by size ... it's just a matter of rigging it to the things that i like ... i've put it into the wisconsin river at mcnaughton to fish that stretch up near the wooden bridge which is impossible in other rigs ... a few other lake x's that i couldn't launch but prefer to fish ... so, i love my exox magnum!

the motor mentioned above ... let's just say i was impressed! ... that 200 v-max was the most reliable and best performance outboard i've ever experienced and the toughest to part with. i have the merc 115 2+2 on my rig now ... it's scary fast ... there are operating things that i've learned that you just have to understand and get used to based on the motor design ... otherwise, all is good ...
