| I only get to hunt for the elusive Esox about 5 times a year, so I don't have an eight rod arsenal like some of the regulars on this board.
My primary rod is a 7'6" St Croix Premier MH, Catala 400 with 65# Stealth and it is a great set-up for most conditions and with only one rod, I can't image doing better. It' a little bit stressed throwing a Dog/Super D or double ten. I also wish I had a little stiffer tip for walking the dog and some jerkbaits.
I'd like to add a second combo for the bigger stuff, but don't can't afford to break the bank for a couple weekends a year. I have another Catala 400. I think I'd like to stay 7'6" or longer, but the prices seem to rise as the rods get longer. I just can't swing $160 or $190 for a new 7'6" or 8' Heavy. Wondering if anyone has used the 7' XH Triumph, would I be happy with the shorter rod?
I'm sure from reading these boards for the last year that someone has advice on a rod that I would be happy with after using the Premier. Something rated for 6 to 8 ounce lures. I do own four other St Croix rods, so I am a little partial to them.
Advice, or if you have something in your box collecting dust I'm all ears. |

Location: Stevens Point, WI | I'd say another 7'6 Heavy St. Croix would be just the ticket for you. You might watch the buy/sell forum, you might find a used one there.

| Try a Gander Mt. 8 or 9 ft. xh ! they are $99.99 and really nice rod! The nice thing is, if something happens to it (defects) you just take it back and you get a new one on the spot! And Gander Mts. are everywhere you go!
Hope this helps...Brian

| I am very happy with my okuma evx 8' 6" telescoping muskie rod. I think they run about $110. |

Location: Ontario | My buddy bought this rod (8'6) Okuma and for $92 CDN + tax, you simply can't beat it.
St.Croix Premier is coming out with an X-Heavy blank in 8'6 earlier than expected this year too, I heard. August was when we were supposed to get them at shops in Ontario, they're saying earlier now. Watch the price jump from the Okuma to the Croix in identical lengths...Okuma's value is sensational. |

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | As a compliment to the 7'6" Premier I would opt for the 8'H Premier made by St. Croix. The rod is made for heavier baits and will perform well with Double 10's and Mag Dawgs. |

I'll second this sentiment. I've been using one for the better part of 2 seasons now; it's still the first one I reach for.

| Just fished for a week the 8'6" okuma - was great! My truck liked the telescoping part down to 7ft. My (originally first rod) was a 6'10" St Croix. I also liked the Compre but decided to go with the longer rod. |

Location: Chicago | I have a couple of the shimano compre rods and like them a lot plus the lifetime warranty is a piece of mind. Found this place that covers shipping so cost is the best I have found. Good luck! (http://www.joessportinggoods.us/shcpcomucaro1.html) |
