| Hi Everyone;
Just a quick thread to update everone on whats going on at Smokey's Muskie Shop on Pewaukee Lake.
Here is the link to the home page to see photos and read an update. http://www.smokeysmuskieshop.com/
John Laimon owner of Smokey's has been closed for a couple weeks to walk-in retail business. His spirits are up but they have a long way to go in returning to normal.
Maybe the good folks here can give John a call, perhaps place an order, or send their best. For those of you who know John personally I am sure you will hear an "ALRIGHT!" when you call despite his situation.
His internet connection is down, but I am printing his on-line orders and email for him to see.
Thanks everyone!

Here is the rules of the lake now in case some are wondering.
June 13, 2008
PEWAUKEE LAKE
EMERGENCY RESTRICTIONS
Recent and continued rains have caused Pewaukee Lake to exceed the high water mark determined in Chapter 21 (17) of the Pewaukee Lake Ordinances; which states:
EMERGENCIES. When the elevation of the lake is in excess of 853.4 above sea level as measured at the Village of Pewaukee dam, no person shall operate a water craft in excess of slow-no-wake in any area of the lake. During any other period of emergency as determined by the Chief, the Chief of the Water Safety Patrol is authorized to impose speed limit restrictions or other reasonable restrictions regarding the use of Pewaukee Lake. Any period of speed limit restrictions shall be no less than 24 hours in duration. Lake Patrol shall post restrictions at all public accesses.
Therefore under the authority of the City of Pewaukee Police Chief, as the Chief of the Pewaukee Lake Water Safety Patrol, it is ordered that no motorized vehicles/boats or personal watercraft shall be operated on the lake. This restriction will be in effect until further notice.

Location: New Berlin,Wisconsin,53151 | Mike and Big O thanks for the update and the pics. I haven't been out there since the Wednesday before the big rains. I feel for John and Lo there a great couple and I hope this doesn't hurt them too bad. This is just one of those 100 year things, I can say that I haven't seen this ever like we have had it over the past two weeks. I hope that I don't see it again in my life time.

Location: Waukesha, WI | I talked to John last Friday, and he told me there wasn't anything I could help with until about a week after the water crests. Extreme One, BigO, Bruce, Zak, JD, SVL, I heard the water dropped a hair. What's the latest with water level? We were supposed to have a MCMI monthly outing out of Smokey's tomorrow. With all the boats in the parking lot, it looks like winter with the exception of the water past the first couple parking spots. |

Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | As of today I hear the West end launch is now open. Trolling motor use only on the whole lake. No gas powered motors at all for any reason.
Fishermen can fish as long as they do not start their motors. I will have both of my motors tilted up so everyone can see they are not in the water. Lots of residents will be not happy to see boats out because they see this like a loop hole in the rules. It is what it is. Trolling motors are allowed. Thats straight from the police who inforce the lake rules.
As for the muskie shop, and bait shop they are still in water. The water is dropping very slowly even thought the the water is still flowing through down town like a new river. First time in history two river were running out of Pewaukee Lake. One down the streets of town and the other the dam. John and everyone involved with Smokeys have been tested beyond belief. Gordy, Johns right hand man has been a rock, the man is a machine, he just keeps going day after day. With time and hard work things will get back to normal sometime in July, late July.
Watch for some special sales coming soon. I hear there might be some inventory reduction sales everyone could get in on. This will be a win/win for everyone. Smokey's needs some cash flow and everyone could use a deal. Keep in touch with Smokeys and help them get back on their feet. Three building damaged with zero money coming in could put them out of buisness. Smokeys has helped every muskie club and organization for years, it's time for everyone to give something back to them. Every little bit helps. Keep in touch with them and this post. I will do my best to help spread the word...................... |

Location: SE, WI. | Water has dropped enough that you don't need waders anymore on the west end. We should be able to run the big gas engines at a no wake speed. We had higher water with no wake situations. JIM:o |

Location: Kenosha, Wi. | I caught the tail end of Cutting Edge Outdoors this morning and John was saying that there will be some type of flood sale on or around the 23rd. You can hear the whole show by going to www.wtmj.com and going to Cutting Edge Outdoors. They will have todays show along with past shows for any info they give. John has always been there to give us his time and now it's our turn to be there for him! |

| I just ordered a new induron from Smokey's today over the phone and had no idea they had been impacted by the flooding. Glad I went where I did. I will keep this in mind for future purchases and try to help out in the only way I can by doing so.

Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | Well, there's one thing John has, it's friends. A group has come up with the idea of throwing a $100.00 a boat Musky Tourny to gather up some casholla. There's more in the works.
Believe it or not, I'm a huge supporter and fan of John and other small shops like his. Without them, fishing just isn't the same. Smokey's selection is bar-none, the best in Southern Wisconsin. If you can't fish this tournament, stop on-line to check out what Smokey's can do for you to help put more gators in the net!

| I think the row boat thing is clever but I would think we could raise a bunch more money if you opened up to more than 20 boats. Obviously there is a limited supply of row boats so this would mean that people fished out of there own boats. You could still find a way to make it different or level the playing field a bit. Either way, the money goes to John, so in the end, who cares who wins?? |

Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | I'd agree with that, if everybody's boat was a row boat. OR, you pay 200.00 a team to use a boat with a trolling motor? I dunno. Buschy and Jimmy are the ones to make those decisions.

Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | The water is still up into the Muskie Shop. You have to walk in hip boots to get on the piers. I have been launching with clients in my boat and then walking through the water to the piers to get into my boat. "Electric only" is still the policy on Pewaukee Lake. I have been switching off from the West end launch and Muskie Shop launch.
Things are not going well as of today. Osha is shutting stuff down, John is in the hospital and a kid(not Johns) is now sick possibly with E-coli. When it rains it pours.
I don't think the row tourney is strict. Anything can or will be worked out for the best. This is a fund raiser, anything goes I bet.
Keep Smokeys in your prayers. This sucks..................
