| I was thinking of taking a trip to northern WI in search of a smaller lake that has a resort and some muskies in it? I have been to Chipewa Flowage but would like a smaller quite lake and have no clue where to start.
any sugestions?

I could offer insight on fishing if you choose this place. |

Location: WI | Wilkins Resort on Bone Lake in Polk Co. If going during the week, you'll love it. If during the weekend, the lake is a zoo. 1000 acre lake with lots of opportunities at muskies, bass, pannies, and perch. |

Location: minocqua, wi. | i agree with the hodaghawg ... check out the rhinelander area ... i think there's also a small resort on oneida lake which is a great action and size lake for the area and pretty quiet. there is a bar/restaurant on the water called the alpine with outstanding cheeseburgers. it's the kind of place where you can feel like you step back in time a little for what the vacation gives you ...
lots and lots and lots of places in oneida and vilas counties.
another body of water i would recommend for vacation is the sugar camp chain. it's a great chain with a nice multi-species population of fish and the scenery is outstanding.

| I would check out Lost Land Lake or Teal Lake near Hayward. There nick-named the quiet lakes for a reason-no water skiers or jet skiers allowed and I believe the lakes have a 10hp. limit. Kdawg |

Check this link out. It should help out a lot with the Rhinelander area.
I would look seriously at Lake George to stay on. It has been known to give up a musky or two.  The walleye fishing is good. The crappie fishing is good. The bluegill fishing is good. The pike fishing is good (no size, but fun). Heck, fishing in general is good on that lake. It has some BIG largemouth as well. Don't let anyone kid you either about the bass fishing in the area, it is really good. If musky aren't going on George, you are a few minutes from Thompson, 10 or so minutes from Moens, 10 minutes from Boom, 15 minutes from Crescent, 15 minutes from Julia.

Location: Contrarian Island | the only access now on Boot are the 2 resorts...you might be able to pay to launch but as far as a true public access...that is no longer the case

Location: Nordeast Minneapolis | I believe Pine Haven and South Shore Resort are still in operation in Webster, WI. I have to admit, I'm a little biased- I grew up in Webster, and Yellow Lake is the lake I grew up fishing. Gets a fair amount of fishing pressure on the weekends, but is typically pretty quiet during the week... like most lakes, I suppose. But it's been a pretty productive musky lake for a long time, with some nice walleye, northern, bass, etc. And the state record sturgeon, to boot!
Webster's more west than north, but it depends where you're coming from; if you're coming from some place like Minneapolis, it might be just far enough north, but you can still get there and back on less than a tank of gas... Good luck! |

Location: minocqua, wi. | another one i forgot that's a gem around here is musky shores .... located on squirrel lake and far enough from town but also close enough to have access. they have a bar/restaurant that has great food and the owners are famous locally for their hospitality ... a solid place you will return to if you are able to get in the books. |

Very nice owners, newly remodeled cabins, bar & grill on site, great food at good prices. Lake offers great muskie fishing plus walleyes and smallmouth. Lodge is about 1/4 mile from the landing. I know they've had a few cancellations for this summer.

Location: WI | Check out www.boulder-lodge.com Boulder Lodge is East of Hayward and is on Ghost Lake. Lots of 30" muskies in there, but you are close to Lost Land, Teal or Moose if you want to go after some bigger ones. Good people, pizza, and a great chocolate malt. Ghost lake is as close to a Canadian experience as you can get, 10 mph lake with great scenery.

| Sportsmans lodge on Moose Lake by Hayward is nice, also liked Totem Pole lodge on Lost Land which is a quiet lake, it doesn't have a 10hp limit, it has a 10Mph limit if memory serves me correct. The speedlimit wasn't really enforced while I was there but I still loved that lake, the only people moving around the lake were fishing not skiing!!! I'd say the real speed limit was more of an honor system to not get stupid. Very nice. |

Location: oswego, il | There are tons of great small resorts on smaller lakes in northern wisconsin. www.fishtrapresort.com is a nice place on the fishtrap/high lake chain. Whittigs is nice too, they are both pratically next door to each other. Back o beyond resort on teal lake in hayward is small and nice as well.
One thing you can do is google the chamber of commerce areas you wish or may with to stay. They all have websites with a resort section which also have websites. There is endless info. You can also yellowbook online for resorts in those areas to get resorts that are not listed in the chamber sites. You can even get a map to see where they are located or if they had a website. I actually bought a car this way too. |

Location: Laona, WI | You could try Johnnies Resort, on Wabicon and Riley lakes. It's the only building on the lakes, lots of Muskies, with a chance for a good one. They have 3 cabins to rent, and boats.
On Hwy 8, in Forest county, between Laona and Crandon.
No skiers, Jet Skies, pontoons, just fishermen and fisherwomen  |

Location: Northern Wisconsin | i went to Musky Point Resort on lake of the falls which is a little lake in mercer that connects to TFF and you can motor up some creeks to some untouched lakes with some decent muskies. really quiet with good muskie fishing. |

Location: Waukesha & Land O Lakes, WI | Trail's End Resort on Palmer/Tenderfoot is excellent. 2 cabins with two room each and 2 houses with up to 4 bedrooms I believe. Its not really a resort, the cabins/houses are owned by two different sets of families, but its really nice. You'd be halfway between Boulder Junction and Land O Lakes, on a two lake, 1000 acre chain. Tenderfoot is boundry waters with a 40' limit, Palmer is a numbers lake.
