Finally broke the ice today by getting a 33 incher to eat a bucktail so first of the year finally out of the way. The other first was my fishing partner, my 16 year old daughter Melanie! She asked if we could go musky fishing today and I said sure. We spent some time at the landing going over casting and how to loosen the drag if you get one on and how to figure 8 and such. Out we go, I hook a musky and get the fish in and Mel asks if she can pick it up! I show her where to grab it and she pulls it out like a pro. A quick picture of Mel and the fish and time to release. Mel gets the fish back in the water and holds it while I grab a release shot. Fish swims off and I realize I have a new fishing partner. Hooked for life I can see. Later Mel misses a mid 30's at the side of the boat as she starts a figure 8. I ask what happened and she said the fish came out of nowhere and scared her and she reeled the leader up to the tip of the rod. Lure stopped, musky swung and missed and I see my daughter standing there with her mouth open. Cool stuff guys. Be sure to take that kid out fishing. Great day.

what did your daughter hit you up for while on the water? j/k.

Kinda unusual for a 16 year old girl to ask to go fishing. The fact that she does is the greatest thing in the world, IMO. I have a 7 yr old girl who goes withe every chance we get. I dread the day she no longer thinks fishing is cool. Or worse, her dad is no longer cool.

Treasure this time with her!!!! Conrats

She did get to drive to the lake and back home towing the boat! Of course we got to do a little shopping before hitting the water. With two older brothers she has always wanted to do what they do like deer hunting and such. She has fished for walleye and for bluegills and crappies since she was little. Always baited her own hook too! Just had to post the picture because I was so proud of her grabbing the fish and all. She wants to hit the water again today but the lawnmower is calling so the fish will have to wait.
