Location: New Brighton, MN | Has anyone ever tried to glue on a bulldawg tail that got ripped off?
I think i've heard of some glue for plastic baits, like bass worms etc, but not sure if that would hold up on muskie baits.
Or should I just go buy a new bait...  |

| you can glue it on, it'll work fine.
the easiest thing to work with is some gel-type superglue, it doesn't run all over everything like the liquid version.
it's available at your local Wal-Mart or hardware store.
there's also a "muskie" version available, but you'll pay a bit more for it and it's the same stuff.

Location: Land of the Musky | You can also hold both pieces side by side and use a small torch and just start to melt the ends and when you see they are both shinny and melted push them together and hold for 60 seconds. I even run them under water to cool it off to get a good seal. I think Thorne or Shack Attack sells some replacement tails for them too. Then you can make a good clean cut to make the fix. I need to just cut one of my tails and do this on video to show you. Taking the kids fishing so if I have time this weekend I will do it.

PS-I have also used alcohol to clean the area and used a good two part epoxy and had decent results. |

Location: Norway | Heat up a knife or spatula, have someone hold the 2 parts together with the hot knife/spatula inbetween, slide it gently out and keep holding the parts together.
Mend-It is also a great product, which Ive used with great success. http://www.menditglue.com/

| Hawgseekers tackle make something called The Ultimate Glue System. It's made to glue plastics back together. It works great. I use it on all my bulldawgs that get torn apart.
this is the "muskie specific" gel-type superglue i was referring to earlier.
it's good stuff and i've used it.
of course, if you look at the ingredients, it's just gel-type superglue...available most anywhere you look for half the price.

| I just started using this stuff called Swimbait glue, it's actually not glue at all, doesn't stick to your fingers, it kind of chemically re-melts the plastic together. Works great, problem is, you're still only fixing a bulldawg, and the next pike, muskie or whatever that decides to hit it will completely demolish the bait. Bulldawgs these days are a one day or one fish bait, and are about as tough as eggwhites. Sorry eggwhites.

Location: Hopefully on the water | I normally use a torch at the end of the day. If it needs fixing on the water I carry a small lighter to get throught the rest of the day. Fixing baits at the end of the day is part of it and fun because generally you had action with them. Good luck fishing this weekend.

Location: Hugo, MN | People tend to overheat the plastic with a torch. I recommend getting a pencil type soldering iron. They're about ten bucks (five bucks at Harbor Freight Tools), and they don't scorch the plastic. Just hold the two pieces together and swipe the hot iron thru them, squeezing together as it passes thru. Bam! New bulldawg. There's not an easier way to do it. I've tried glue...it's messy and it ends up re-tearing right next to the crusty dried glue spot. Waste of time and you'll end up losing a tail eventually. |

| I'm with Mitch and Lambeau - the Hawgseeker Ultimat Glue system is really slick. I glue them when I'm fixing baits at home. On the water I use a Ronson mini-torch lighter. It's the perfect lighter for repairs on the water, I can't believe I ever used a Bic-type lighter. |

| Hey Guys,
This is a tip regarding the "one Bulldawg = one fish" problem.
I, too, have lost tails due to fish hitting just behind the back hook. Originally, I had this problem when fishing for pike with a swimbait and only relying on the jighead's hook.
My solution: A stinger hook. Get 5-to-12 inch leader and put a small, single stinger hook on it. You'll find that you'll catch a lot of fish on that single hook and your bait will last a LOT longer.
By the way, last summer, I was throwing a MagDawg without a stinger. I had gotten away with it on the regular sized 'Dawgs for a while so I figured I'd be OK. WRONG. Bite off; not even hooked. Just a thump and tail was gone. Bait ruined.
Go with a stinger but make sure you leave enough slack in the leader or attach it far enough forward that it doesn't negatively affect the twister tail's action. |

Location: Hugo, MN | I just saw on ShackAttack's website a new product called "Mend-It". Apparently not like super glue, which dries crusty, it melts the plastics together by a chemical reaction. Sounds like a good option for in the boat repairs. Anybody tried it yet? |

| Mend It! That's the name of the swimbait glue I was talking about - Yes, I bought some and it works great. I actually went through about half a tube in a week of fishing bullldawgs (didn't need to use it on the shack attack stuff). It's kind of expensive but works everytime, doesn't stick to anything but it mends the plastic back together. Every repair I made with it was good as new. If you use this with some durable plastics I'd bet it'd really extend the life of them.

| I reattached one the other night by warming up a nail with the propane torch and using that to melt the two pieces together. Use a long nail or you will burn your fingers like I did. Just call me Mr. Du'mass. |
