Looks like VHS has been tentatively confirmed by the LaCrosse Fish Health Lab in muskies from the Clearfork Reservoir, Ohio. This is awaiting official confirmation from APHIS. Was detected in ovarian fluid samples during spawn take operations. Sounds like there has been no fish kill as of yet and probably won't be since I assume the lake is already above the temperatures which VHS kills.

I do believe that is the brood lake for Ohio muskies, this will have a huge impact on their program.

If they don't have a back-up this is pretty much going to end it for awhile. I'd hate to be on the crew that has to sterilize the hatchery...

From what I was told, the DNR was successful at treating the eggs they gathered and as of now there is no VHS in the hatch. Hats off to the DNR!!!!

Our fingers are crossed that this stays a minor problem and we don't get any major fish kills. It is probably safe to say most the Muskie waters in Ohio have the virus, with the number of boats that go from one lake to the other. This has not been confirmed but just an assumption.
