Trolling motor noise,

Big feet that kick stuff,

Loud voice,

Radio's,

Singing fisherman,

How much do YOU beleive that noise plays a factor in your fishing?

Stealthy is healthy if you wish for big fish.[;)]

Steve,

I think that maybe someone kicking the side of the boat when you have a fish up or the trolling motor would spook a weary fish. Friday I had the jams cranking and caught two. I think that some fish are just plain "HOT" and nothing you could do would spook them. That 47" was going to eat my bait no matter what,I could have jumped in with him and fought for the bait and he still would have eaten it!!!!!!!![;)]

From what I've seen, I cannot scare a muskie, but I think things like yourself making noise or a trolling motor makes them alert of the angler. This is not based on knowledge but rather a hypothesis (stupidity)

I think that the ONE thing that would horribly terrify a Muskie would be KARAOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!![]

I had pressure microhpones and regular microphones glassed into my hull for a year. The noise the rig makes defies belief, and I mean that sincerly. I have no clue at what point one may expect to alarm the fish, but simple converstaion was picked up clearly, trolling motor noise, sonar noise, buzzing from motors off in the distance, banging, squeaking, walking, NOISY!![:sun:]

From my experience, noise has not had as much influence on the fish as compared to my movement. I fish very clear water (+13 deep clarity) and one color I REFUSE to wear is RED.

had a red jacket a few years ago and any fish that I had follow spooked. I suppose you could say that the jacket was really LOUD!! :-)

Trolling motor, walking, and banging stuff. Yes, this can all be heard under water.

Talking can not be heard under water. You can not scream loud enough to be heard under water by a fish. I read this some where, but I don't remember where. It has to do with the way fish hear. Fish hear through vibrations in the water. You can't scream loud enough to make vibrations in the water. (Unless your head is under water)

Is this going to turn into another behavior debate about conditioning??? Are fish conditioned to boat noise on lakes with lots of traffic? If so, are they conditioned to pay no mind to "boat"noise or vise-versa??? I personally havent found any evidence either way.

Back when I fished with those rigs that you had to wait for the fish to swallow the sucker. I was waiting on a fish and was slowly following or chasing it around with the electric. The fish started to head for some nearby cribs and I knew I’d probably loose the fish if it got in there. It was too soon to set, so then I decided to bang on the bottom of the boat. I maneuvered between the fish and the crib, stamped on the bottom, and successfully herded the musky away from the snags. I caught the fish so the noise didn’t cause it to drop the sucker, but it sure didn’t want to be near annagoddadavita(sp) being played on the bottom of the boat.
I believe a stealthy approach is the best approach in most situations.

Well, I figure it certainly can't help the program if you start jumping up and down shouting "Holy Shiite! I've got a follow! I've got a follow! Look! Do you see it?"
