first time out with the red isis this weekend and i love the reel!! very smooth and pulls harder pulling spinnerbaits and bucktails well. i am having an issue that im wondering about. kind of like describing that "noise" to the auto mechanic...

when i cast and the reel is turned ever so slightly it makes a really bad "buzzing" sound. when the reel is straight up and down no sounds its always been more comfortable for me to cast with the reel at a slight angle so i guess ill have to get used to casting with the reel facing up? or is there something else going on with the reel i should know about? also im using 80lbs stealth im getting frequent backlashes, but when i tighten the "spool control" (whatever its called) i also get some of those buzzing noises

any info or ideas is greatly appreciated since i love the reel i just dont like weird noises coming from it

Take the face plate off the reel, and put a drop of oil on all the bearings on the spool shafts, both sides, plus a tiny drop where the spool shaft rides. Lightly oil the gearing and put her back together.

Use your cast control, tighten 'er up and it should be quiet and well behaved.

ba,
I ran into the same problem with an FINA FI 400. I was curious to give an Okuma a try so I picked this up to use bassing here on the river--I've had more backlashes in 3 times out than I've had in 30+ years as a happy owner of many ambassadeurs! I also experienced the buzzing you discribed too. I want to give the okumas a fair shake but I'm afraid my confidence in them is currently rather weak.
