I'm heading up to a cabin on this lake come this weekend, and I was curious if anyone has been on this lake or a similar one nearby recently. This is an annual trip that I usually take with family (4th year now) so I typically know what to expect, but with such a late start after ice-out, I'm wondering how far behind the weed growth is along with what kind of water temps to expect by this weekend.

The lake typically has water clarity around 12-15' when we're there on a clear day, and it gets to be as deep as 60' with the average depth being fairly deep. Its pretty much a big bowl (and smaller attached lake, the 2nd sister ;p, that is more varied) with some nice points and inside breaks.

Just hoping to get a feel for what to expect. We swim alot too, since the water is so clean, but I have a feeling the water may be a bit chilly this year to get in very often. Any input regarding this lake or something close would be great!

Thanks guys!

I have a place not to far from Two Sisters. It is about 3 weeks behind in growth underneath the water and in the forests. Water temps are in the very low sixties.
The last muskie I caught was May 31 and had scars on it from spawning. 6" twitch baits showed all the action. Good luck and have a warm towel nearby if you're so brave to go for a swim. Plan on major shinkage.

Hah! Thanks for the advice. :-p

Twitch baits are one thing I've started using a lot more and had planned to use there as well this year. Hoping to through a Suick a bit too, since I've never tried that there. Seems like I always get stuck in a rut and end up using either deep cranks (depthraider mostly), bucktails, spinners, or a stomper style lure. I think I need to slow things down more, especially in that clear water, with something like a glide bait. Seem like a reasonable assumption? I've only gotten 1 muskie out of that lake personally, and lost another. Sad thing is, every muskie I've had in my boat from that lake (myself or friends) has not been while fishing for them! Either way, nothing of size.

I actually fish that lake for bass more than I do muskies, but its a 60/40 type of deal honestly. 5 days straight without puttin one in the boat can be way too much.

Good time to go suspended especially with the weeds behind.

Well, after spending the 5 days I was there fishing this pretty hard for all species, the fishing turned out to be pretty good.

Excellent weather, though a little bit windy at times during the afternoon hours, but that was manageable with some spots to find some shelter if needed. Water temps were 64 when I got there and around 66-67 when I left on Wednesday. Weed growth was almost non-existent in 3/4 of the lake, but a few of the warmer bays had some decent growth.

First morning really had me excited about muskie fishing after having 2 fish, mid 30s, follow a buzzbait on a rocky point while fishing for smallies (which did get me 3 over 15"). And all of this within the 1st hour of fishing! I quickly found out though what the trend was going to be like all week regarding daily patterns. Every species (cept rock bass) seemed to shut off right around noon or 1pm and would start getting more interest back again after 7ish in the evenings. The muskies were no different, after having a HUGE follow (upper 40s) over deep weeds but that was near dark at like 9 pm the first day as well, but not much else of size to speak of. The fish were very lazy, nothing came firing after a bait by any means, but they definitely showed some interest and my lack of concentration led to losing them instead of a follow on a effective figure 8. Oh well, that happens when you're gettin' tired. Anyways, ended up boating 1 fish at 20" (VERY skinny little guy), and had another on while bass fishing w/ a jig that was pushing 30" but took me for a ride and eventually wrapped up into some wood to break my line (6lb mono).

All in all it was a great week of fishing, boating 25-30 smallmouth, 40-50 rock bass (couldn't keep them off the trailer on my muskie stuff!), a few largemouth northern, and 1 muskie boated (granted a baby, but still) with 7 follows total.

That lake should really pick up here in a week or 2 if those water temps get going.
Oh, most of these fish were seen or caught with a big spinner, black bucktail and orange/yellow spoons. The trailer hook always had a big twister tail on it too (white or yellow), which really seemed to be a trigger for a couple of the less active northern especially. No follows/hits on topwater, but a 1 or 2 fish checked out a baby depth raider fished sporadically (jerk and reel a bit).

I have a place out there, I'm out there every week doing something. Cabin's been in the family for well over 60 years and I'm going to give you some good information. There are no fish in this lake pick a different one :P Thanks for the report though haha
