Location: Verona, WI | Thinking about hitting the water tonight and saw that water was up a foot over the weekend. Anyone have any thoughts on tactics post flood?

Location: Richland Center, WI. | I would like the answer to this question also. Living in Richland Center we are battling the floodwaters as we speak! I usually musky fish Lake Redstone and have heard the water is up at least 2 feet above normal. What are we to do?

| The high water is not the only thing that you have to take into account. The debris and silt and mud will screw up the water quality for a long time to come. Especially if there are any creeks that feed the water. I know that anyone who fishes the Wisconsin River will have troubles for a month or more. Any rain that we have from now on will just keep on dumping run-off water and debris into the river and resevoirs. I learned from years of fishing The Mississippi River, that any high water situation screws up structures, buries weed beds with silt and dumps snags in places that were clear before. When you fish rivers, you have to constantly adapt to changing topography, unlike lakes.

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | I like the WI River during high water, it seems the Pete & Castle Rock removes a lot of sediment., so the best fishing for me has been really when the water is up, i.e., it seems to put the river muskies into a feeding mode.
I think right now they're holding back a lot of water in the Pete & Castle Rock. I went over to the Castle Rock Dam yesterday & they only had the main shute open, all 16 main gates were closed. When they open those 16 main gates, the river rages and the muskies are usually on a rampage. However, it can be very dangerous! The water level literally comes up 8-12' in a matter of minutes . The pressure waves are awesome. You might even want a life jacket when fishing from shore, i.e., if you fall in, you're going to have a hard time getting out.....
I think I'm going fishing this afternoon!
Have fun!
