I was milling about ebay and seen a few of them new in box with levelwinds. With the new bigger reel craze, has anybody tried a 9000? They seen to be cheaper than the 7000's.

Well you got my curiosity up so I took a 9000i, spooled it up with 100lb. Stealth and took it down to the lake to give it a few casts. I put a DC10 on the line and it casts pretty darn nice for being that big of a reel. It took some time getting used to the lever not re-engaging and having to do it by hand but it seems like it's something that I could get used to. With my normal cadence of retrival I was bringing the DC10 to the surface so I would have to learn to reel a little slower but I did notice that it was a lot easier retrieving than wit ha normal sized reel. If you throw a lot of DC10's and other hard pulling baits it might be something you want to take a look at.

I also tried out Abu's new Revo Toro 60 which is a 6 sized Revo low profile. They make it in size 5 and 6 in either a 5.4 or 6.4 to 1 gear ratio all of them in right or left handed. The one I was playing with was a size 6 5.4/1 right handed reels. OH MY GOD IS THIS THING COOL! Spooled with 80lb. InvisiBraid and casting a smaller double bladed, maybe 8 size this thing cast forever! This thing is going to be huge! I also like that all of them come with a double handle and a power handle.

Reelman, with the big spool of the 9000i,were you able to burn the big blades in with little effort? I know the reel is geared at 4.2to1. But, I was wondering if the size of the spool compensated for the low gear ratio, such as a 7000 with the 4to1 ratio being able to burn standard size bucktails. Also, when are these new Revos coming out? The Abu web site has no information which is not surprising because they seem kind of slow in keeping up their web site. Kdawg

I actually had the bait on the surface from my normal speed reeling with what I though was little resistance. I have never thrown one of the Trinidads or other slat water reels that guys are using do I can't compare the 9000i to them but it seemed to me that it was much easier to reel than a standard reel. I would actually have to slow down my reeling to keep the blades in the water.

The Revo Toros are supposed to be out in September of this year.
