Subject: transducer for the 55PD

Just getting the Lowrance pkg items put on the boat and found out this. The only place to put the front transduce is on that strap behind the skeg Skeg goes all the way to the nose, not a chance to hang it in front. Directions say that skegs wake might affect the transducer. Also, the locking collar on the shaft prevents me front putting ty-wraps on the shaft to hold transducer cord in place. Anyone have these slightly irritating problems? Any suggestions will be appreciated ( short of selling 55PD and getting one with a built in transducer. ) Thanks.

I have an older 55pd ap. I have the bracket that allows me to put the transducer on the motor but my skeg does not go all the way to the nose. As far as the cord goes, I left enough slack for the motor to turn and put a tie strap just under the head to hold the cord. Never had any problems until my last outing when I lowered the motor into the water and couldn't figure out why my motor would not lock down. Duh, the cord was caught in the locking mechanism. Locator still works fine just scraped up the wire a little, Just a little electrical tape and I was good to go. Good Luck, wish I had the universal sonar.

My 55PD is an older one, so I had no issues with drilling and tapping the skeg for the Skimmer transducer bracket. You could through-bolt w/ lockwashers and nuts, too. I've had no issues with prop or skeg turbulence since I did this three years ago.

Typ-rap the cable at the motor and at the housing at the top of the shaft. No need or reason to secure it to the shaft. Search the forum, there was a post not too long ago with pictures of the right way to do it.
