| Just a thought, with gas prices going up and probably staying there, will this have an overall good effect on musky fishing pressure ? People will most likely take less trips, travel closer to home etc. Places like MN and Canada that are the hot destinations right now might become less crowded, less pressured and this might just be a good thing for our musky fisheries?!? |

Location: oswego, il | I have seen it already. Some of it could have been the tough spring but seeing a popualr boat ramp not full at all at any point during the day that has not been that way in the 8 or so years you have fished there, one must think....... |

| It has already affected the traffic up north in WI. was up for a week over memorial day and far less traffic on the lakes and ramps. Local's said business traffic was way down. It has to have an effect---I usually make the drive up north 6 times during the fishing season. Truck use's a lot of fuel so I will have to cut it down to maybe only 4 this year. Just have to make them quality trips--- |

Location: Iowa Great Lakes | I'm fortunate to live 5 miles from a ramp on a good lake so prices wont affect my on the water time. Only problem is our fish seem to be followers not eaters so far this year. We have noticed less traffic so far but could be the weather to, time will tell now that its warming up and the summer silly seasons getting on to full swing. |

| Definitely impacted my spring. I was planning on going to Kinkaid a bunch of times this spring, but only made it a couple of times. Couldn't afford to drive 3.5 hours each way for fishing in mud. Now it looks like my season is over until September. |

Location: Ontario | I live and fish in Ontario, about 30 miles south of Georgian Bay. One thing I have noticed is that people sure PICK THIER SPOTS a lot more. Hwys and water ways still recieve normal traffic when weather's good. Where I'm noticing the big drops in travellers and fishermen is when the weather forecast ranges from 'less than perfect' to 'iffy' to 'bad.' People aren't wasting a tank of gas on a bad wknd. No change on nice wknds, but it can be like a ghost town when the weather's bad....which is when we catch all our fish anyways. I love it. It's easier for travellers to say 'screw it' if its gonna rain all weekend, but they still come out when the weather's gonna be nice. |

Location: N.FIB | With the gas prices so high and the late spring with the fish not moving as good as the last few years,I`ve decided to wait til about now before I start driving to madison an hour each way and also no more half days unless it`s a perfect fishing day and I know the lake will be turned on.Now I wil start hitting the lakes more,I wanted to wait til the bucktail bite was about ready. |

Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | I have noticed way more people fishing local lakes. I think a lot of fishermen are not going up north as much. My guide buisness booking have doubled this spring. I think some are just going to learn the local lakes and hire a guide to show them the ropes. Heck, you can hire a guide for a full day and still save money staying home. |

| reports are fishing by boat down 50 per-cent on ls..t clair. bigger boats are being hammered . running across st clair at 10 gallons per hour with a 350 inboard becomes very expensive. |

| Musky Season was not open yet,but Memorial Day there were TWO Boats out of the Town of Tonawanda Boat Launch on the Niagara River.Usually Memorial Day Weekend the Launch would be filled with vehicles & boat trailers.Yes,gas prices are keeping a lot of people from using their boats.I also have a travel trailer on a campground space on Lake Erie.The campground last year had many open sites,this year those sites all have trailers on them.Seams people who have RV Trailers are parking them and are not towing them down the road because of the price of gasoline as well.I expect to see many more musky fishermen Casting this year instead of Trolling.

| makes sense too me.. i spent $130 in vehicle/boat gas to drive 300 miles round trip....to fish for 2 days. then add in food. WOW, hardly any on the lake i was on. i will be cutting way back after watching my money fly out the window.... |

Location: Stevens Point, Wisconsin | I'm still heading to LOTW for 17 days, just will fish smarter and use $600 stimulus check for gas. I think people will cut back on some other hobbies to pay for the most important hobby that matters to them. I would agree however that many trips will get cancelled this summer and there will be less pressure on the more popular bodies of water. |

Location: Brainerd, Minnesota | The lakes seem quieter around here (central Minnesota), especially on Mille Lacs. Boat ramps on the weekends were full and booming last year. This year is nothing like that. Less pressure should be better for those that are still fishing. Like someone else said, easier on the fish/environment, etc.
In spite of it, business this June has been awesome for me. Lots of people coming from out of state.
I did a test a couple of days ago. Filled up my rig, left Nisswa and ran down to Buzzy's on Mille Lacs for a full day guide trip (SE corner of the lake). Came home and then gassed up again. $51 in the truck, and that's not counting the boat. It's pretty much $50-100 right off the top every time I go out. I definitely am being much more careful about timing my trips, how much I run around, etc. I'm seeing less and less guides doing 1/2 day trips, unless they live right on the lake. Not much profit in it.
But no matter what happens, I vow to keep fishing muskies!

Location: Land of the Musky | IMO it will be good for a boom of 50" plus muskies in the years to come. It will be interesting to see if this happens. Would make for a cool scientific journal article if we have any fish biologists in the crowd that need another publication  |
