Since I already get the manure taxed out of me here in America's Dairyland for gas, cigarettes, liquor, income, the stadium the Brewers keep losing in, and I think maybe even for having relations with my wife (though at my age that one wouldn't add up like it used too), a .00125% sales tax to support the DNR seems reasonable. I like the MN idea of a committee that includes citizens (I nominate Steve Worrall as a voice of reason, and Chuck Nelson to keep things all riled up) to monitor how the money is spent. Here in the Land of Cheese, it's likely Doyle would figure some way to get his grubby mitts on the money and use it for something else without some sort of oversight. Anybody remember our tobacco settlement billions? What happened to those anyway?
Me thinks the DNR would probably be happy with a little extra dough ray me around stocking time. I'm sure most of the money would go to the State's musky programs. Maybe they could buy some of those Leech Lake muskies I'm always hearing about. The long skinny ones? I heard they grow to the length of an NBA shooting guard in just under three years, though they don't reproduce as prolifically.
What say you? Yeah or nay to a tax for DNR support? I'll start with a yeah vote, as I'm kind of liberal when it comes to fishing and the building of schools. Other than that, not so much.

Location: Greenfield, WI | Each year taxes that were ear marked for a specific purpose gets raided by the wonderful governor of Wisconsin for other uses. Afterwhich he whines that we have to raise taxes because the funds he raided are underfunded (because of him!)
Examples of that were the Tabacco Extortion, which magically were not necessary for the supposed millions of dollars of hospital bills that would be caused by smoking and magically got redirected to the general fund.
Another prime example is the Transportation Fund which the last two state budgets was gutted by this governor, afterwhich he again claims we need more tax increases to fix roads!
Once the money is collected it will disappear from its intended use. We cannot trust this clown! | |

If non residents were charged as much for a season of angling in WI or MN as what NR's are in CO for hunting we wouldn't need to use tax $$ either. You also have to remember that much of the public land in CO is Federal and thus managed, policed etc by Federal employees so the burden isn't shouldered solely by CO DNR. Then add in that in MN the DNR must take care of everything from miles of bike trails to thousands of docks and far more public access's etc etc......I'm just guessing here, but both the MN and WI DNR's are probably tasked with doing more with less in license revenues to work with.
